Selma City Finance Director Bob Sanders has been placed on administrative leave, pending further notice, said Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr.

Perkins said Sanders will be placed on leave until he appears before the Selma City Council during a council session that will be held Oct. 14.

Sanders, who became Selma’s first finance director in April 2001, served as a registered lobbyist to the Alabama Legislature as well as serving in various other positions before becoming finance director.

He received a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Alabama and completed all the course work for a Ph.D. in Marketing, Management and Finance, and an Ed. D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

He also taught classes in business and finance at Troy State University, Auburn University, the University of Arkansas and various other colleges.

Councilwoman Jean Martin, when asked to comment on the matter, called Sanders &uot;a good person,&uot; adding that she felt he had done &uot;good job&uot; as finance director.

When asked to comment, Councilwoman Rita Franklin said the position of finance director should never have been added to City of Selma.

Sanders, when asked for comment, said he could not comment at the present time.
