Rev. Robert Daniel Sr.
Rev. Robert Daniel Sr., 101, of Minter, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at a Montgomery hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Alberta, with the Rev. C. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Daniel Memorial Cemetery in Minter with Brownlee Funeral Home of Camden directing.
Survivors include eight sons, Willie Manuel (Minnie) of Montgomery, Rev. Nathaniel Daniel (Minnie) of Minter, Rev. Willie Daniel (Carolyn) of New York, N.Y., Rev. Carl Daniel (Ella) of Minter, Morris Daniel of Selma, Roosevelt Daniel of New York, N.Y., David Daniel of Hayneville and Clifton Daniel of Woodbridge, Va.; five daughters, Corene Daniel Boatwright of Montgomery, Arlene Johnson of Mobile, Fannie Daniel McDaniels of San Francisco, Calif., Crecia Tate of Cleveland, Ohio and Gloria Tate of Detroit, Mich.;
and a host of grand, great-grand and great-great-children, sons and daughters-in-law, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Simon Daniel, sons, Robert Daniel Jr. and Johnny Tate, two daughters, Eliza Daniel Frazier and Elnora Tate.
Rev. Daniel was born, Dec. 16, 1900 in Minter to the late Coren Daniel. He accepted the Lord at an early age and was later ordained as a Southern Baptist minister.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Nettie Simon Daniel and 11 children was born to this union.
Grace Lee Thacker
Grace &uot;Gracie&uot; Lee Thacker, 89, died Monday, September 23, 2002 at a local hospital.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, September 27, at the Chapel Selma Funeral Home with Captain Todd Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery, near Billingsley, with Selma Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-laws: Ozane and Doris Thacker, Lamar Thacker, Brady Thacker, Roger and Valarie Thacker; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Dales Lewis; a sister, Pauline Golden; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a great number of loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sons, James Vergil Thacker, Bobby Gale Thacker and Charles Verlon Thacker; her brothers, Gilbert Chandler, Marvin Chandler, Clarence Chandler and Arnold Chandler; and her sister, Daisy Thacker.
Active pall bearers are David Paxton, Arlone Thacker, Jimmy Golden, James Golden, Thomas Earl Mitchell and Julius Mitchell.
Mrs. Thacker, was born May 26, 1913 in Chilton County, the daughter of the late George Washington and Mary Ellen Sims Chandler, She was the widow of the late Francis Marion Thacker. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, but attended the Salvation Army Church.
Fred Lynn LaVigne
Fred Lynn LaVigne, 85, of Marion, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at a Perry County nursing home.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at St. Wilfrid’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Fletcher Comer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sherer LaVigne of Marion and two granddaughters, that they raised, Annesia C. (Jason) Miller of Mobile and Teresa C. (Thomas) Pope of Marion; two step-daughters, Sherer B. (James) Averette of Marion and Joyce B. (C.O.) Fowler of Gulfpoint, Miss.; two step-sons, Walter Paul (Mary) Hester of Birmingham and Tom W. (Mary) Bolen Jr. of Dallas Texas; one brother, Percy LaVigne of Lakeland, Fla.; other grandchildren, Becky Lark of Birmingham, Cathy Averette of Montevallo, Jonathan Averette of Birmingham and Jo Ann Jackson of Ringold, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Payton Pope of Marion, Tristan Miller and Miller both of Mobile and Katlyn Jackson of Ringold, Ga.
Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Kirk Funeral Homes in Marion.
Roscoe Sullivan
Roscoe Sullivan, 79, of Selma, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002 at a local hospital.
Services are at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Good Hope Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, with the Rev. John L. Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with J. H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Easter Sullivan of Selma; two sons, Willie C. (Dolores) Brown of New Jersey and James (Susan) Sullivan of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; two daughters, Della Sullivan and Eloise Sullivan of Selma; two brothers, James (Sadie) Sullivan and Monroe Sullivan both of Selma; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock and Linda Sullivan.
Mr. Sullivan was a lifelong member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
