Captain D’s rises from the ashes

Life is a series of ups and downs and how we deal with the downs determines how high we bounce back.
The owners of the Captain D’s restaurant received a big &uot;down&uot; last January when the popular eatery was badly damaged by fire. The restaurant was forced to close in the dead of winter and the owners had to decide to either rebuild or move on.
For months, the burned-out building stood and what was once a bustling parking lot was empty. Things didn’t look much better after the original building was bulldozed. There were rumors that the restaurant might not be rebuilt and reopen.
As it turns out, the owners have rebuilt and we are glad they have. We should applaud companies and people who want to grow business in our town and produce. That’s what the owners of Captain D’s have done and they will soon be open.
When the restaurant reopens in October, it will employ between 35 and 40 people. That is positive and good news. The restaurant will also be serving up fried fish and seafood. Anyone who ever ate at the old Captain D’s knows it was a popular place.
For those who are thinking about starting a business or simply taking on a project that will require dedication and hard work, keep in mind that any project appears difficult and daunting before it is started. Many choose not to even take on the project.
Captain D’s will face more challenges. Businesses face new and unexpected challenges each day. That is a given.
But the owners of Captain D’s know they can now face a huge challenge and rebuild from it. The faith that can come with such a lesson is very valuable. They are stronger and in a sense, our community is stronger.
We hope the community will support the restaurant when it reopens and show the ownership that they made the right move in rebuilding.
