Carl Edward Barge Jr.

Carl Edward Barge Jr., 25, of Dallas County, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, in Selma.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 13, at West Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Singleton Barge; one brother, Lawrence W. Danzy III; one sister, LaTonya Danzy Billups; niece, Morgan Billups; grandparents, Essie M. Singleton and Marshall Moore; one brother-in-law; and one niece.

Active pallbearers are Tommy Farrish, Eric Cleveland, Fed Glover Jr., Eric Small, Ricky Price, Andre Foster.

Honorary pallbearers are Wesley Summers, Marvin Summers, Antoin Summers, Tracey Lewis, Vincent Martin and Marcus McConnell.

Charlie J. Moore

Charlie J. Moore, of Livingston, died Thursday, September 4, 2003, at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday, September 12, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Coatopa, with the Rev. Wesley Winston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

John D. Rawls

John D. Rawls, 81, of Selma, died Saturday, September 6, 2003 in Orrville.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 13, at Lincoln Cemetery with the Rev. Ernest Wright officiating and J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sisters, Juanita Smith (Samuel ) of Orrville and Idell Rawls of Selma; one brother, Henry James Rawls Sr. (Shirley) of Lawrenceville, Ga.; 10 children, Howard Jordan (Gail) of Irmo, S.C., Shirley A. Rawls of Wetumpka, Fred A. Rawls of Huntsville, Derick M. Rawls of Bowie, Md., Nathaniel Lewis (Bonita) of Selma, Valerie D. Rawls of Jacksonville, Fla., Sabrina G. Allen (Ricky) of San Antonio, Texas, Beverly D. Sharp (Michael Sr.) of Pensacola, Fla., Joseph B. Rawls of Riverside, Calif., and Ellen T. Heard (Kenneth) of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine granddaughter; four grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and a beloved dog, Goldie.

Mr. Rawls was preceded in death by a son, Willie J. Rawls and grandson, Kenneth Wayne Heard Jr.

Family visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m.

Dennis A. Ray, 51, of Ft. Deposit, died Tuesday, September 9. 2003.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 13, at Ft. Deposit Complex with the Rev. Oscar Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery in Greenville, with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Doris Pigg Negus

Doris Pigg Negus, of Ocean Springs, Miss., died Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at a Ocean Springs hospital.

Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Friday, September 12, at New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Charles L. Hunter

Charles L. Hunter, 79, of Selma, died, Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at his home

Marie Priscilla Foster

Marie Priscilla Foster, 85, of Selma, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 13, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two loving children, a son, James Foster of Indianapolis, Ind., and a daughter, Rose Marie Davis of Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers, Dr. Sullivan (Jean) Jackson and Thomas Martin of Selma; granddaughters, Mattie Bell Thornton of Buffalo, N.Y.; Monique &uot;Nicky&uot; Vos of Salt Lake City, Utah, Teresa Foster of Indianapolis, Ind.,; one grandson, Troy Davis of Salt Lake City, Utah; eight great-grandchildren, Martrece’ and Tiffany Thornton of Buffalo, N.Y., Isaiah and Terence Vos of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jermaine, Christopher andDonell Foster of Indianapolis, Ind., and Christopher Leigh of Salt Lake City, Utah; three great-great grandchildren, Malik Robinson, Chelsea Thornton of Buffalo, N.Y.; four nieces, Thedrika Sawyers of Oakland, Calif., Norma Jean (Harold) Miller of Anderson, Ind., Ernesteen (Walter) Greene of Phoenix, Ariz., Jawana Jackson of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, William, four sisters, Matilda Olds, Eula Bell Griffin, Rosa Stokes and Irene Broadnax.

Active pallbearers are Samuel Lett, M.D., John D. Harrioson, Kahari Varner, Kindaka Sanders, Samuel Lett Jr., SamWalker, Kamani Varner and Charles Johnson Sr.

Honorary pallbearers are Isaiah and Terence Vos, Alexander Jones, David Reid, Joseph Warr, John Lewis, Troy Davis, Dr. Chudy Okoye, T.C. Martin, Dr. Sullivan Jackson, James Gildersleeve, Ernest Doyle, Dr. Theodore Jemison, Dr. F.D. Reese, Dr. De Graft Yankah.

Mrs. Foster was born in Alberta, (Wilcox County) to the late Square and Virginia Martin. She moved to Selma with her parents and siblings at an early age She received her early education in the Dallas County school system. Mrs. Foster was united in holy matrimony to the late James Foster.

She confessed Christ at an early age and later joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Dr. D. V. Jemison. She served faithfully for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Foster received an associate degree from George Wallace College. She also received a degree in cosmetology. She pursued a career as a dental hygienist for many years. She also worked untiringly with the Dallas County Board of Registrars. Her most effective contribution to the civil rights movement was promoting and assisting in voting citizenship classes. It was in these classes that people were taught how to register to vote and how to make their vote count. These classes increased the number of registered black voters in Dallas County from 130 in 1963 to 19,000 by 1987. Mrs. Foster, received several prestigious awards. She was affectionately called by many Selmians, &uot;Mother Foster.&uot;

Saul Garner Jr.

Saul Garner Jr., 51, of Demopolis, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, at his home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 13, at Nazareth of Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev, Edward King and the Rev. Jesse Bell officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Gallion, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

Elizabeth Sullivan

Elizabeth Sullivan, 68, of Boligee, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 13, at Christian Valley Baptist Church, Boligee, with the Rev. Willie Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor Place Cemetery, Boligee, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 12 noon.
