James Claude Jack Sr.
James Claude Jack Sr., 86, of Selma, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, among family in Birmingham.
Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. George Sedberry officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include a son, Jim Jack (Annie) of Birmingham; grandchildren, Angie (Alan) Foote, Jennifer (Gordon) Cashmore, and Kevin (Lori) Jack all of Birmingham; great-grandchildren, Alex Foote, Connor Foote, Caroline Jack, Jeffrey Cashmore and Jacob Cashmore all of Birmingham.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Suther Jack, his mother, Neva Kemp Jack and a grandson, Jeffrey Claude Jack.
Mr. Jack was a veteran of World War II and was retired from Henry Brick Company.
Martha Mott Evans Scott
Martha Mott Evans Scott, 61, of Selma, died Wednesday, September 12, 2003, at a local hospital.
Services are at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 11, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Dr. F.D. Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include two son, Melvin B. (Toni) Evans of Memphis, Tenn., and Eugene C. (Rosemary) Scott of Naples, Italy; one daughter, Wanda P. (Anthony) Jones of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, William J. Evans of Central Islip, N.Y. and Robert E. (Annest) Evans of Kissimmee, Fla.; three sisters, Estella Cook, Elizabeth Carter and Laura Irby of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren; one son-in-law; two daughters-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers are Deacons and Brotherhood of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Ms. Scott accepted Christ at an early age and was united with the Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was a dedicated and faithful member and served in numerous church and community activities and events.
She was educated in the Selma Public School System. She later received her Associate degree from Selma University a Bachelor’s and a master degree and Master’s degree from Alabama State University in early childhood and elementary education.
She taught for years at McRae Learning Center and in both Selma City and Dallas County Schools, Den Mother -Cub Scout Pack #193 and served with the Selma IND Choir.
Bruce Brown
TSgt.Bruce Brown, 32, of Warner Robbins, Ga., formerly of Coatopa, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003, in Iraq while serving his country.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, at Warner Robbins Air Force Base with full military honors with AFB Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow in Robbins, Ga., with Nelson Funeral Home in Warner Robbins, Ga., directing.
He was the son of Joe Brown Sr. and the late Roberta Ross Brown of Coatopa.
TSgt. Brown, was a 1989 graduate of Livington High School.
Martha Brown
Martha Brown, 91, of Demopolis, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, at a Demopolis hospital.
Graveside services are at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, at Gilfield Community Cemetery in Gallion, with the Rev. Moses Jones officiating and Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.
Lonnie Lawson
Lonnie Lawson, 83, of Gallion, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at a Tuscaloosa hospital.
Services are at 12 noon on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at John the Baptist Church in Gallion, with the Rev. Gerome Burrell officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.
The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 11 a.m.
