Roberta Emanuel

Services for Roberta Emanuel, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2004, at Friendship P.B. Church, Highway 45 in Prichard.Survivors include her nine children, Finis (Julia) Harris and Charlie (Mary) Harris all of Selma, Samuel Harris and Rev. Robert (Lurene) Emanuel of Prichard, Ruth (Rick) Grady of Woodbridge, Va., George Emanuel of Mobile, Luverta (William) York of Springfield, Va., Cartia (Larry) Moseley of Eight Mile and JoAnn Deas of Prichard; one sister, Ollie Clay; two sisters-in-law, Fannie Knight and Martha Harris; 30 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Emanuel was born on March 18, 1911 to the late Rev. Sam and Luverta Sanders of Dallas County. She confessed Christ at an early age. Her father, Rev. Sanders baptized her at age 15 at St. John P.B. Church in Dallas County.

Charles Donley Phillips

Charles Donley Phillips, 66, of Jones, died Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at a Montgomery hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 5, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Phillips

of Selma; son, Bill (Vickie) Phillips; step-children, June (Rick) Bray, Linda (Gerald) Nichols and Billy Snodgrass; sister, Sue (Ed) Withaell; god-son, Curtis (Janie) Cook; grandchildren, William, Joel, Susan (Earl) Abbott, Amanda, Zachery Phillips, Cathy and Thomas Cook and Judy Day; great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Joshua Bray, Layla Abbott and Jerald David Abbott; cousin, Gary (Sandy) Phillips; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles N. Phillips and Cecil S. Phillips.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Anne P. Jones

Anne P. Jones, 72, of Selma, died Thursday, September 2, 2004, at a local hospital.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Monday, September 6, at New Live Oak Cemetery with Homer Holland officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Frank Jones Jr.; sons, Robert (Sharilyn) Jones of Marietta, Ga. and David (Tracy) Jones of Woodstock, Ga.; daughter, Rebecca Jones of Selma; brother, Fred A. Powell of Jackson, Miss.; grandchild, Jennifer Jones of Crestview, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Mel G. Parker, Leith Wilson, Alfred D. Morelock, David M. White, David B. Jones and Larry Lewis.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, at Lawrence Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to the Selma Boy Scouts or Special Preschool Education Class at West Central Alabama Rehab Center or to your favorite charity.

Mrs. Jones was a nursery school teacher at Leika’s from 1965-69. She was also a substitute teacher at the Selma City Schools from 1971-83.

John A. Heard

John A. Heard, 73, of Marion Junction, died Monday, August 30, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 5, at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Heard Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

William A. Bennett

William A. Bennett, 68, of Marion,, died Thursday, September 2, 2004, at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Christine Neube

Christine Neube, 52, of Selma, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Margaret Underwood

Margaret Underwood, 49, of Selma, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Joe Louis Williams

Joe Louis Williams, 63, of Jonesboro, Ga., died Friday, August 27, 2004, at his home.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 4, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Forklnad, with the Rev. William M. Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Chapel Cemetery Forkland, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Reuben Washington

Reuben Washington, 90, of Selma, died September 1, 2004, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Services are scheduled for Sept. 4, at Lewis Brother Chapel, officiated by The Rev. James Spicer Sr., of Elmwood Cemetery, directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.

He is survived by his spouse, Ella Washington; son Fernando J. Shine; daughters, Ruby Lana, Delores Guest, Barbara Triplett, Martha Hall, Anglina Washington, brother, Willie Washington; sister, Estelle Ellis; 13 grand-children; 8 great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.
