Barbara Bennett

Barbara Bennett, 77, of Selma, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Golson officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a son, Tony Bennett of Mobile; daughters, Shelah Irwin of Fairhope, Bonnie Hill of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Belinda (Seymore) Bradbury of Selma; sons-in-law, Earl Irwin, Mark Hill and Dick Bradbury; grandchildren, Lisa Surrett of Selma, Wendi Carroll of Trussville, Neely Johnson of Nashville, Tenn., Amy Bennett of Montgomery, Leslie King, Mark Seymore and Jeff Seymore all of Selma, Brian Seymore of Montgomery and Angela Zimmerman of Mobile; sisters, Sara Kornegay of Montgomery, Jean McManus of Charleston, S.C., and Nancy Rogers of Lafayette, La.; a sister-in-law, Vera Holcombe of Marion; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, E.W. Holcome Jr., of Marion

Mrs. Bennett practiced cosmetology in Selma for over 50 years.

Theresa Dawkins Henry

Theresa Dawkins Henry, of Birmingham, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at a hospital in Atlanta, Ga.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Westminister Presbyterian Church, 6th Ave. S. in Titusville.

Survivors include sons, Rev. Andrew (Alma) Dawkins, pastor of Wayman Chapel, Selma and (Ret.) Chief of Chaplain Service at the V.A. Hospital in Montgomery.

Martha Snow

Martha Snow, 74, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma.

Molly N. Sanders

Molly N. Sanders, 88, of Autauga County, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Prattville Baptist Hospital in Prattville.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Autauga County with the Rev. Woodie Melton officiating and Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include a son, Joseph W. Nun Sanders; a daughter, Katherine (Elwood Sr.) Roy; a niece, Nellie B. (Min. Charles) Whetstone; a great-niece, Cynthia Ann (Willie) Calhoun; a grandson, Min. Darrell Dawson (Evang. Estella Perkins); a great-grandson, Darrell Dawson, Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place at Walter Jones Cemetary with family and friends acting as pallbearers.

Beatrice Walker

Beatrice Walker, 87, of Selma, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31, at 12 p.m. at Salem P.N. Church in Orrville with the Rev. Lee A. Green officiating and Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include seven daughters, Millie (Jefferson) Sparks of Detroit, Mich., Lettie (Ernest) Washington of Brooklyn, N.Y., Eva and Iola Walker of Brooklyn, N.Y., Eula (Cornelius) Steele of Bellwood, Ill., Lillie Walker of Selma and Sherry (Michael) Davis of Mobile; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Burial will take place at Salem Cemetary with Mrs. Walker’s grandsons acting as pallbearers.

David Pryor

David Pryor, 93, of Sprott, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Southland Nursing Home.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. at New Oak Grove Baptist Church in Sprott with Rev. Woodie Melton officiating and Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include wife Rosie Pryor; sons James (Rosa) Pryor, Nathan (Ruth) Pryor, Joseph Pryor and David (Mary) Pryor, Jr.; daughters Fannie (Jesse) Melton, Cora Garrett, Ann Jones, Cathy (Phil) Brown and Betty (Joe) Dupar; brother Harold Pryor; sister Fannie Brown; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, plus a host of nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place at the church cemetary with Mr. Pryor’s grandsons acting as pallbearers.

Elizabeth S. Sheppard

Elizabeth S. Sheppard, 89, of Selma, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma.

Services are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m. at Shady Grove M.P. Church with the Rev. Bert Scott officiating and Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include husband Earnest Sheppard, Sr.; sons Earnest Sheppard, Jr. and Peter Sheppard of Selma; daughters Beatrice Afflick and Pauline Obioha of Los Angeles, Calif., Della Johnson, Betty Shepard and Lula Shepard of Selma; 1 brother-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; 2 sons-in-law; 1 daughter-in-law; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Burial will take place at the church cemetary with Mrs. Sheppard’s grandsons acting as active pallbearers and the deacons of Zion M.P. Church as honorary pallbearers.

Louise Blackmon

Louise Blackmon, 56, of Selma, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at her home.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive #1 Baptist Church with Bishop C.J. Nicholson officiating and Miller Funeral Services directing.

Survivors include sons Mario (Martha) Blackmon and Demontrell Shelton; a daughter, Sandra (Ricky) Smith ; brothers Alvin (Ruby) Blackmon and Herbert (Bernice) Blackmon; sisters Amanda Blackmon and Fannie (Ray) Henderson; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place at the church cemetary with family and friends acting as pallbearers.

Ethel Mae Sanders

Ethel Mae Sanders, 83, of Birmingham, died Friday, August 23, 2002.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mason City under Pastor William J. Perry.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Mason City.

She was the mother of 11 children, of which two sons preceded her in death: John (Barbara) Sanders and Tom C. Gilorid Sanders. Surviving children are Johnnie (Stella) Sanders, Lula (Cornelius) Wilson of Pensacola, Fla., Eula (Porter Jr.) Wilson, Sarah (Carol) Johnson, Joann Agee of Selma, Nancy (Lorenzo Sr.) Benefield, Ethel (Earnest Jr.) Benefield, Jimmie (Wanda) Sanders and Andrew L. Sanders of Birmingham; 46 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; one nephew and a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services are provided by Birmingham Funeral Home with burial in Oakland Cemetary.

Charles R. Washington, Jr.

Charles R. Washington, Jr., born Nov. 5, 1968 to Mrs. Leola Stewart and Mr. Charles Washington, Sr., departed this life on Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, in Atlanta, Ga. He leaves to cherish his memories daughter, Tanisha Brackens of Atlanta, Ga.; mother Leola Stewart of Selma; sister Sharon Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers Raymond Stewart of Thomaston, Ga. and Anthony Stewart of Baltimore, Md.; aunts Regina J. Woodson (Bertran) of Selma, Willie Mae Goodrum (Ralph) and Loria Mack all of Atlanta, Ga.; Jackie Rawls of Selma, Josie Ann Ford of Hawthrone, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hattie Mae and Stanley Rawls of Selma, Maggie Johnson, father Charles Washington Sr. and brother Roosevelt A. Stewart all of Atlanta, Ga.

The graveside service will be held at Smith Cemetary in Orrville on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002 at 12 p.m. with Pastor Coly Chestnut officiating and Walker Mortuary directing.

Eric V. Earies

Eric V. Earies, 22, of Selma, was born to Frank and Marilyn Earies on Jan. 3, 1980.

He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Providence Baptist Church.

Eric departed his life on Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in LaGrange, Ga.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving mother and father, Frank and Marilyn Earies of Selma; a loving and devoted fiancee, Mary Tolbert of Selma; sons JaQuinton and Jamarcus Tolbert of Selma; sister Ebony V. Earies of Selma; grandmothers Inez Collier and Mamie Earies both of Selma; 16 aunts; 15 uncles; 3 brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law and a host of cousins and friends. He also had two special friends, Adrian Smith and Daniel McReynolds and one close friend, Glenn Friede.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers Aaron Collier and Frank Ellis and uncle Lee Collier.

Services will be held Sunday, Sept. 1, at 2:30 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church on Tremont St. with the Rev. Sammy McDole officiating and Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Eric was employed by B&K Construction Company and United Scaffold.

Bobby J. Kennedy

Bobby J. Kennedy, 30, of Selma, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in Franklin, Ga.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31, at 12 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Daryl Moore officiating and Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetary with friends and co-workers acting as pallbearers.

The body will lay in state for an hour prior to the funeral service.

Survivors include wife Jocylin S. Kennedy; parents Jean Kennedy and Bobby Russell; son Bobby Kennedy, Jr.; mother and father-in-law Ovetta S. and Earl Jenkins; aunt Paralee S. Johnson; brothers Stevenson (Norma) Kennedy, Joseph Kennedy, Dariuse Kennedy and Anthony Kennedy of Selma; sisters Annette Kennedy, Carolyn Kennedy, Corah Kennedy and Venita Kennedy of Selma; brothers-in-law Berdell (Gertis), James and Ronald (Sharon) Spears of Selma; sister-in-law Jessica (Spears) Seay of Selma and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
