‘Forcible intrustions’ have police warning public

Selma Police are advising local residents to keep their doors locked, windows closed and an eye out for any suspicious activity.

Following a recent rash of &uot;forcible intrusion&uot; type robberies in north Selma, police issued a warning for residents to be on the look out for two black male suspects.

One of the suspects is described as being 5’8&uot;, with a medium build, while the other is described as being 6’2&uot;, with a thin build.

According to police reports, the suspects have forced their way into residences and are reported to be carrying &uot;long guns.&uot;

Police reported that a couple living on the 2100 block of North Church Street were robbed Monday night.

Police spokesperson Lt. David Evans said the two suspects, after knocking on the couple’s door, entered the couple’s residence, and after injuring one of the victims, then stole a wallet and a purse.

They immediately then fled the scene, Evans said.

Capt. Joe Harrell, head of the police department’s criminal investigative unit, said police are &uot;investigating several leads and are developing suspects.&uot;

He advised that local residents lock their doors and windows, and make sure that lights around residences are left on.

He also advised residents to secure doors &uot;with deadbolts, especially the type that have to be opened with a key on both sides.&uot;

He added, &uot;Be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to what is going on around you.&uot;

Harrell asked residents who notice any suspicious activity or persons to contact police at 874-6611.
