Edith McAllister Beers

Edith McAllister Beers, of Selma, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at her home.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. George Sedberry of Church Street United Methodist Church officiating. Lawrence Funeral Home will be directing.

Joann Hopkins Jones

Joann Hopkins Jones, 88, of Selma, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, in the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Fancher and the Rev. Tim Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

She was preceded in death by her brohters and sisters: Sammy Hopkins, Birtie Seymore, Becky Davis, Preston Hopkins, and Dawson Hopkins.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Casey L. Jones; sons, Rev. Levert (Linda) Jones, Lonnie (Sandra) Jones, Donald (Marsha) Jones, all of Selma; two brothers, Arlin Hopkins of Marion and Harvey Hopkins of Atlanta, Ga.; sister-in-law, Martha Huckabee; grandchildren Rev. Tim (Stacy) Jones of Pickensville, Tommy (Tina) Jones, Torrey (Tory) Jones, Kevin Jones, David (Amy) Jones, Eric (Krystal) Jones, Trease (Doug) Kirk and Carla (Don) Smith, all of Selma; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday.

Bernice Eloise Smith

Bernice Eloise Smith, of Orrville, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at her residence.

Funeral services were Sunday at the chapel of Rockco’s Funeral Home in Centreville with the Rev. Willard Scott officiating.

She was buried in Union Presbyterian Cemetery in Vance.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Smith, and her daughter Janet Brown.

She is survived by a son, James Larry (Shirley) Smith of West Blocton; two daughters, Reta Nuss or Orrville and Peggy (Douglas) Scott of Thorsby; a brother, Edward Rogers of Hixon, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Roy Adams, Lerry Jones, Harold Delaney, Ronny Delaney, Mark Boone and Tony Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Melissa Hoffman and the employees of Cahawba Hospice.
