The Selma Quarterback club held their yearly kickoff last night for the upcoming 2002 season. Stan White was the guest speaker for the opening festivities.
Next Tuesday the Quarterback Club start their regular season’s meetings with guest speaker Tommy Tuberville head coach for the Auburn Tigers.
When Tuberville took over the reins as Auburns head coach he made a statement at hi opening press conference &uot;Auburn is the kind of place where you can win championships and we plan on doing just that.&uot;
He has accomplished that over his stay at Auburn. In his first two years he won the SEC Western Division title, and finished with a Associated Press ranking of number 18 in the country.
In 2001 he led the Auburn Tigers to their second division title as they tied for the Western Division championship.
Progress and growth have been a major factor during Tuberville’s three seasons as Auburns head coach. The Tigers have seen their stadium locker rooms upgraded, and also an assembly center, and the Tiger Walk Plaza were built. A 14,000 square foot weight room and training facilities were also completed in time for winter training.
Tuberville understands what it takes to succeed in coaching. He has had stops at football powerhouses like Miami, Texas A&M, and a four year stint at Ole MIss gave him the background that he needed to succeed in building and maintaining a football program.
While at Ole MIss Tuberville inherited a program plagued by NCAA violations, and still managed to go 25 & 20. In his first season at Ole Miss Tuberville guided the football team to a winning season even though he only had 61 players on scholarship.
