Melvin Melton, 53, of Selma, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003, at a local hospital.

Jessie S. Kennedy

Jessie S. Kennedy, 74, of Selma, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

Maime Elizabeth Pate Hobson

Maime Elizabeth Pate Hobson, 83, of Uniontown, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at her home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, August 22, at Uniontown Baptist Church with Bro. Pete Hicks and Dr. Robert Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include children, William (Karen) Smith of Eclectic, Barbara (Robert) Middleton of Greensboro, Carolyn (Kenneth) Rumsey of Wetumpka, Larry (Linda) Hobson and Joseph Hobson both of Selma; step-children, Judith Wiggins of Centreville, Dorothy (Russell) McClellan of Akron, Melissa Mayfield of Akron, Richmond Hobson and Raymond (Lisa) Hobson all of Centreville; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-gteat-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hobson was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, James O. Smith and Brady Hobson, grandson, Michael Smith and daughter-in-law, Linda Moore Hobson.

Active pallbearers are grandsons. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home.

Josephine Key Shepherd

Josephine Key Shepherd, 88, of Uniontown, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, August 24, at St. Peters P.B. Church with her son, the Rev. Robert Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery Julia L. White Funeral Home directing.

Family visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home.

Robert Green

Robert Green, 89, of Forkland, died Sunday, August 17, 2003, at his home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Lloyd Chapel Baptist Church, Forkland, with the Rev. Clayborn May officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Berncie Rodgers Dawson

Bernice Rodgers Dawson, 76, of Austin passed away August 10, 2003.

Bernice held a Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Hawaii and a Bachelor in Library Science from Mississippi State College of Women. She was the Librarian for the Classics Library at the University of Texas and retired in 1987.

Bernice was an avid bridge player and researcher of family history. She was also a charter member of Berkeley United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Aubrey T. Dawson; daughter, Brenda D. Green and husband, Sam of Inman, South Carolina; Sons, Gerald T. Dawson and wife, Anita of Lorena, Texas and James R. Dawson and wife, Phyllis of Austin; grandchildren, Daniel Green, Trouper Green and Kendra Dawson; and brother, Sidney E. Rodgers of Deatsville, Alabama.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel in Austin.

Burial at Forest Oaks Memorial Park in Austin.
