Unity Brown

Unity Brown, 87, of Selma, formerly of Pensacola, Fla., died Sunday, August 17, 2003, at her home.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, at Bethel Church Cemetery, Orrville, with the Rev. Clifton Chestnut officiating and Walker Mortuary directing.

Survivors include one sister, Estell Parker of Birmingham; one nephew, Jay Jay Parker of Birmingham; one niece, Michelle Parker of San Diego, Calif.; a devoted niece and caregiver, Ollie M. Williams of Selma; four great-nephews, Larry Williams of Selma, Herman (Gloria) Williams of Pensacola, Fla., Titus Wms. Hobbs of Atlanta, Ga., and a devoted great-nephew and caregiver, Morris (Jean) Williams of Selma; four great-great-niece, Jessica Nicole Brown of Pensacola, Fla., Shenika R. Williams, Jessica L. Pettaway and Stephanie Williams all of Selma; two loyal friends, Augustine Jackson and Helen Smith both of Pensacola, Fla.; and a host of other family and friends.

Mrs. Brown was a faithful member of Sabastian Baptist Church in Pensacola, Fla.

Active pallbearers are great-nephews.

Wesley Wilson Nichols

Wesley Wilson Nichols, 90, of Camden, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, at a Camden nursing home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Chapel of Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion with the Rev. James L. Waters Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing.

Survivors include one daughter, Ruby A. Nichols (David) Sharpe of Camden; two brothers, Ralph Nichols and Bruce Nichols both of Marion; grandchildren, David E. Sharpe II of Clanton and Amy Renee Jones of Selma; and one great-grandson, Joseph Sharpe Jones of Selma.

Active pallbearers are Larry Nichols, Glynn Nichols, Clyde Turk, Tom Clary, Bobby Hale and Randy McCrory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Nebo Cemetery Fund c/o Billie Jean Nichols, 201 Troupe Street, Marion, AL 36756.

Corine Carter

Corine Carter, 69, of Dallas County, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, at her home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 23, at Providence Baptist Church, Kings Bend Rd., with the Rev. Timothy Stromas officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home Inc. directing.

Survivors include sons, Lorenza (Sarah) Carter of Selma, James Gulley of South Carolina, Garfield Gulley and Hugh (Patricia) Carter of Selma; three daughters, Mary Gulley, Jessie (Jerome)Gulley of Selma and Marie (Willie) Washington of Montgomery; brothers, Lovell (Mammie) Carter of Florida and Earnest Carter of Montgomery; four sisters, Plummie (Willie) Crumpton of Indianapolis, Ind., Helen Miller

and Susie Summerlin both of Montgomery and Pauline Carter of Wisconsin; 23 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Catherine Carter, a son, Jimmie Carter, two brothers, MaHonney Carter and Charles Carter.

Active pallbearers are Tyrone Carter, Jeff Wade, William Watts, Terrane Smith, Torrence Douglas and Kon Peoples.

Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Hopkins, Dewann Brown, Marcus Bennett, Edward Kidd, Buster Spears and Ricky Hunter.

The body will lie in state at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Carter joined Sand Ridge M.B. Church at an early age and served faithfully until her health would not allow her too. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, a great and great-great-grandmother. She retired as a domestic worker. She loved everyone. All the children call her grandmother, she never met a stranger, or turned anyone down anyone weather it was food, money or lodging.

Doris Edith Roberts

Doris Edith Roberts, 64, of Selma, died Monday, August 18, 2003 at a local hospital.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Al Finch officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Roberts of Selma; three sons, Ronnie (Teresa) Roberts, Ricky (Charlene) Roberts both of Loxley, and Randy Roberts of Oxford, Ga.; two daughters, Marie (Mickey) Jones of Oxford, Ga., and Christi (Robert) Jolley of Lowndesboro; three brothers, Charles Williams of Century, Fla., Clifford Williams of Huxford and Clyde Williams of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; two sisters, Dean Colburn of Burnsville and Brenda Ekstrom of Jacksonville, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are Johnny Portwood, Dewayne Walker, Hank Roberts, Allen Murray, Mickey Jones and Robert Jolley.

Honorary pallbearers are

Dr. Fahoum, Dr. Taylor, Dr. Knight, Dr. Brignac, Dr. Burns, Dr. Howell and nurses on the second floor of ICU.

Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Catherine Marjorie Garner

Catherine Marjorie Garner, 90, of Selma, died Monday, August 18, 2003, at a local hospital.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, at Old Live Oak Cemetery with Dr. John Fain officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include nephews, William F. Cosby of Eclectic and James D. Cosby of Huntington Beach, Calif.
