Lestine Steele

Lestine &uot;Bip&uot; Steele, 77, of Selma, died Sunday, August 3, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, at the Chapel of J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. John Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lincoln Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three sons, George Page (Clara) of Nashville, Tenn., William Steele, Michael Steele (Gloria) of Selma; four daughters, Margaret Thomas (Willie), Dorothy Washington, Barbara Brown of Selma, Gwendolyn Waugh (Charles) of Columbus, Ga.; a devoted brother, Leroy W. Page (Lonnie) of Selma; a living sister, Georgia Mae Peterson (Barry) of Birmingham; and a special granddaughter, Jacqueline S. Williams; one brother-in-law; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Donald Gaile Hicks

Donald Gaile Hicks, 54, of Selma, died Thursday, August 7, 2003, at his home.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Carswell officiating. Burial will follow in Alpine Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include brothers, Wayne (Jane) Barrett and Ricky (Sue) Mitchell of Selma and Julius (DeAnn) Hicks of Tuscaloosa; sister, Shirley (George) Taylor of Augusta, Ga.; six nephews.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Sharon Denise Hinkle

Sharon Denise Hinkle, 39, of Marion, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, in Marion.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 9, at Morning Star Baptist Church in Marion, with the Rev. Eugene Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directng.

Survivors include parents, Jessie Hinkle and Roosevelt Tubbs; two sons, Lionel Hinkle and Marques Hinkle; two brothers, Caribe Hinkle and Ronnie Hinkle; five sisters, Cynthia Hinkle, Connie (Howard) Bennett, Paula (Ronnie) Williams, April (Jim) Herring and Sandra Tubbs; 10 nephews; five nieces; and two special cousins, Tonya Ford and Kelvin Hinkle.

Active pallbearers are cousins. Flowerbearers are Perry County Home Health attendants.

Melva J. Russell

Melva J. Russell, 76, Demopolis, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 9. At Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis, with the Rev. James Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 12 noon.

Leslie Sanders

Leslie Sanders, 89, of Selma, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at East Salem Baptist in Sardis, with the Rev. W. J. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include four sons, Jesse Bender, Johnny Smiley, Samuel Smiley and Luzell Sanders; three daughters, Shirley ( Leon) Steele, Cora (Marvin) Wilson and Leslie (Norman) Hill; one sister, Hattie Maul; 29 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Active pallbearers are family and friends.

William J. Furlow

William J. Furlow, 57, of Selma, died Thursday, August 7, 2003, at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

Mary Gay Woolley

Mary Gay Barnette Woolley, 97, Selma, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery, North Perry County, with Lawrence Funeral Home directing

Survivors include a son, W. Kendall (Barbara) Woolley of Niceville, Fla.; daughters: June Pyle of Birmingham, Edna (Roy) Wright of Adamsville, Sybil (Joe) Whitacre of Valley Grande, Jeannette (Ray) Gutkowski of Vestavia Hills and Janice Kooser of Ft Walton Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren 3 great-great grandchildren; and a sister: Ada Barnette Long of Pelham.

She was preceded in death by her husband: G.B. Woolley, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Woolley, a son, James Kenneth Woolley; six brothers and three sisters.

Family visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church, 2150 Broad Street, Selma, where she has been a member for nearly 50 years.

Annie C. Rhodes

Annie C. Rhodes, 99, of Selma, died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at a

local nursing home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 9, at New Sister Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, Boysie (Linda) Rhodes of Fayetteville, N.C. and George W. Rhodes of Selma; two daughters, Mildred (Erwin) Missick of Kissimmee, Fla., and Ruth E. Battle of Brooklyn N.Y.; one sister, Millie J. Moore of Gordonsville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephew, and other relatives and friends.

Cora Bell Marshall

Cora Bell Marshall, died Sunday, August 3, 2003.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 2910 Range Line Rd., with Bro. James Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her children, Julia B. (Napoleon) Wilks; Cora L. (Vodia) Gaiter; one son, Charlie A. (Glenda) Marshall; granddaughters, Rutha M. Hackett and Essie L. Maxwell; in addition to 18 other grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-great-grandchildren; brother, John H. Marshall; two sisters, Lenora Bryant and C. Bell Hall; cousin, Sally Thigpen, among many cousins, nieces, nephews; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and three aunts.

She was preceded in death by four children.

Active pallbearers are grandsons.

Flowerbearers are granddaughters.

Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, at J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Marshall was born March 21, 1915 Lowndes County, and was married to M. C. Marshall

Mrs. Marshall served the Dallas county community as a Midwife more than 30. She loved her work, because she loved children, many of &uot;her children&uot; would make themselves known to her wherever they would see her.

After a diligent study of the Bible, she dedicated her life to serve Jehovah God. She symbolized her dedication by water baptism on May 23, 1976. She remained a faithful Witness throughout her illness until her death.

Anna B. Bailey

Anna B. Bailey, 80, of Selma, died Monday, August 4, 2003, at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 9, at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Cabbel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Arthur L. Bailey (Dorothy); daughter-in-law, Dorothy Bailey; one sister, Harvey Ree Morrow; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Rosie Bailey, Brenda Shelton and Bertha Shelton.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar L. Bailey, parents, Arthur and Dovia Shelton.

Isaac Dixon

Isaac Dixon, of Selma, died Thursday, August 7, 2003 at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Bertha L. Smith

Bertha L. Smith, 58 resident of Sardis, died July 31, 2003 at her home.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2003 at 11 a.m. at New Shiloh Baptist Church in Sardis, officiated by Rev. Curtis Jackson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing..

Survivors include spouse Daniel Smith, two sons Daniel Dewayne Smith and Corey Smith and one daughter Veronica Smith.

She is survived by eight brothers, Eddie (Gayle) Hunter, Jr., Frank Hunter, Lee (Willa) Hunter, Wayne (Mary) Hunter, Hugh Hunter, Melvin (Emma) Coker, Moses (Barbara) Coker and James Coker.

Two brothers preceded her in death, Johnny Robinson and Robert Coker Jr.

Six sisters, Lorraine Hunter, Dorothy Hunter, Barbara Hunter, Henrietta Hunter, Louella (Robert) Bell.

Rose (Elkanard) Smith preceded her in death.
