A former bus driver with the Dallas County School System has filed a sexual discrimination charge against a principal, who recently resigned from Brantley Elementary School.
The claim was filed with the Equal Employment Opportuni-ty Commission by the Montgomery law firm of McPhillips, Shinbaum & Gill, L.L.P., against former principal Melvin Miller, who resigned Friday from Brantley Elementary.
Julian McPhillips, an attorney with the firm, said he would be representing the employee.
According to an affidavit filed by the school employee, the employee
was notified her work contract was not being renewed for the 2002-2003 school year. She alleged the reason for the non-renewal was due to her rejecting the sexual advances of the former principal.
The affidavit states, &uot;Accordingly, when I was not renewed in May 2002, it was obvious that my non-renewal was due to refusing Mr. Miller’s advances. As a result of the foregoing, I have suffered damages in that I have lost income, experienced mental anguish, and incurred attorneys fees to vindicate my rights.&uot;
The affidavit further states that Miller made sexually suggestive remarks towards the employee and touched the employee in a &uot;sexual manner.&uot;
