FBI plans help with robbery

Details have not been released, but a Selma Police captain says the FBI plans to get involved in the robbery of Selma’s SouthTrust Bank.

According to Capt. Joe Harrell, chief of detectives, the federal agency will offer a reward to help find the man who held up the Broad Street branch of SouthTrust on July 18.

FBI officials could not be reached for comment, and it is unclear how much the reward will be once a statement is made.

Along with the FBI announcement, Selma police released a new, more detailed picture of the suspect in the bank robbery. The photo shows the suspect in the process of the robbery and give a few more details about who the person may be.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5-foot-10 tall and 230 pounds. He is approximately 50 years of age and had a mustache during the time of the robbery.

Surveillance tapes also show the man wearing a fisherman’s cap, dark sunglasses and a white, long-sleeved shirt.
