Leafs stuff River Bats

With another poor night in attendance, the Selma Cloverleafs take the first game of A three game series against the Baton Rouge “River Bats” 7 to 1.
In the top of the first Chris Cassels hit A solo homerun over the left field wall to give the River Bats there only run of the night.
In the bottom of the third Andrew Tarver reached base on walk and then advanced to second on a pass ball. Keith Sills grounded to firs to move Tarver over to third. With two outs Joe Whitmere was walked and then stole second to put runners on second and third. Brock Lowell hit a hard single to left to score Whitmer and Tarver and make the score 2 to 1. Merrit Bowden drew A walk and put runners on first and second. Joe Colvin hit A double off the left field wall to score Lowell and Bowden to make the score 4 to 1.
In the bottom of the fifth Whitmere hit A double to deep center and advanced to third on yet another pass ball. Lowell drew A walk to put runners on first and third. Bowden hit A sac fly to center to score Whitmere from third and make the score 5 to 1.
In the bottom of the eighth Lowell beat out an infield single to reach first, and then Bowden drew A walk to put runners on first and second with zero out. Two outs later Luke Hurst hit a single to load the bases. Lowell scored on another pass ball and Tarver drew
A walk to load the bases again with two out. Keith Sills drew A two out walk with the bases loaded to score the final run of the game.
Jason Benard the starting pitcher for the Cloverleafs went 5 strong innings only giving up one run, and six hits.
The Cloverleafs play tonight at 7 p.m. against Baton Rouge at Bloch Park.
