Selma High prepares for eight game season

With football season only a couple of weeks away, and schedules already made out everyone else is preparing to play 10 games while Selma High only has eight on the schedule.
Public football programs sign two-year contracts with the teams they schedule, so not only does this effect the athletic department for Selma High this season, but it also plays a role in next year’s season as well. There is always the chance that the spots could be filled for next season, though.
With football bringing in the majority of the revenue that the athletic department receives, the loss of four games in the next two years could put a bind on all athletic programs.
“The loss of revenue won’t be too bad on the school because of the fact that only one of the games we lost this year was a home game” coach Jerome Harper said. “The only legitimate away game on our schedule is against Phenix City. The rest of our away games are within a 60-mile radius.
“So what we are going to lose is the gate of the one home game that we lost off the schedule, but we will make up in not having to spend a lot traveling expenses.”
So between the fact that may always pick another game or two next year to make up for the loss of two this year, the extra revenue saved on travel expenses this year will make up for the loss of the games on the schedule.
