With Tiger Woods two shots off the lead going into this weekend’s play at the British Open, several area golfers had this to say about his chances of winning the British Open and the Grand Slam.
Selma native and avid golfer Scott Calloway said, “I think he has a pretty good chance at winning the British Open and taking the Grand Slam this year. A lot of people thought that he didn’t do it last year, because of the fact that he won all four majors in the same calendar year and not in the same season. But to me it was still an amazing feat that he could win all four major championships and achieve such a thing.
Shane Zimmerman said, ” I don’t think his chances are all that great. If the wind gets up over there as it always does, it tends not to play into his game very well. I will give him this, though: He did win all four majors. Even if it wasn’t in the same season, it was still an amazing thing.
“If Woods plays as long as Jack Nicklaus did, anyone will have a hard time breaking all the records he is going to break.”
Wren Burns said,” I think he has a very good chance at winning the British Open and the Grand Slam. As far as I am concerned, he has already won the Grand Slam, he won all four major championships in the same year and that is all that counts.
Kinley Harrison said, “I think his chances are better than average. As far as I am concerned he has already won the Grand Slam. But if he does it this year it will silence all the critics, and that would be unbelievable.
Going into Saturday two shots down seems to be an almost ideal position for Woods. He has amazed everyone so many times with his come from behind victories and his run away wins, it’s a sure bet these Selma golfers will be watching to see if he can do it again.
