Leafs drop another one

The Montgomery Wings made quick work of the Selma Cloverleafs yesterday at Bloch park.

Starting pitcher Josh Thornhill went the distance giving up four hits, no runs and had three strike outs.

The Wings picked up their first run in the top of the fourth, when Evan cherry reached base with a walk and then took second on a passed ball. Eunique Johnson drove in Cherry with a hard hit single to left field to make the score 1-0.

The Leafs stranded two in the bottom of the fifth and that turned out to be there best opportunity of the game.

Kyle Parker got in trouble in the top of the seventh by walking the Gavin Jackson to start the inning, and then hitting Melvin Anderson to put runners on first and second. Kenny Craddox singled to load the bases. Another passed ball scores one to make the score 2-0. A sacrifice fly by Stephen Webster brought in another run to make the score 3-0. Eric Turnrose came in to replace Parker and gave up a single to score two more, making it 5-0.

In the top of the ninth a lead off walk put Colby Smith on first and started another big inning for the Wings. Gavin Jackson singled to center to put runners on first and third with one out. Two more passed balls scored Smith and Jackson to make the final score 7-0.

Evan Cherry and Eunique Johnson were the two big sluggers for the Wings. Cherry went three for five and was walked once. Johnson went two for four and waked once.

The wings and the Cloverleafs play again today at 3 p.m. at Bloch Park.
