Six Leafs named to North all-star team

Six members of the Selma Cloverleafs have been named to the 2002 Southern League All-stars Northern Division. The six members named are pitcher Dennis Gomez, pitcher Terry Waters, second baseman Keith Sills, outfielder Jose Colon, DH Merritt Bowden and utility player Brock Lowell.

Lowell leads the Selma Cloverleafs with a

batting average of .371, and a 642 slugging percentage. He has also driven in 12 runs and hit four homeruns .

Bowden carries a .318 batting average into the all-star break. He also has four stolen bases and five home runs. Bowden has driven in 21 runs and he is one of the team leaders with in extra base hits with six doubles and one triple.

Colon leads the Cloverleafs in doubles with 11. He also has a strong batting average at .309. Colon is also one of the team leaders with six stolen bases and 15 RBIs.

Sills is batting .265 with six stolen bases, and 12 RBIs.

The 2002 Southern League All-Stars game will be held at Patterson Field in Montgomery Alabama on

Saturday July 13 at 7:00 P.M. The homerun contest will be held Friday night July 12 at 6:00 P.M. also at Patterson field. There will also be a kid’s baseball clinic given by the all-star’s at 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning at Patterson field.
