Selma’s oldest age group of All-Stars, the Majors (Age 17-18), was the only local team to go winless in the All-Star tournament this season. The team lost twice to Prattville, suffering a 7-1 defeat on Sunday night and a 10-0 loss on Monday night.
Monday night’s shutout started off badly for Selma–Prattville had a six-run first inning, running up the score at the onset of the game. Selma used a total of four pitchers in the six inning game, starting out with Michael Lee in the first. The visiting team seemed to find Selma’s every weakness, hitting to gaps and rounding the bases constantly.
The first of Selma’s four hits for the evening came in the second inning, when Kevin Hamm drilled a single to the outfield. No Selma players could hit Prattville starter Cory Meachum or the rest of the pitching staff for extra bases, and only three other locals got hits. In addition to Hamm’s single, Trey McIntyre, Josh Stokes, and Chris Wallace each had a single for Selma in the game.
Prattville played almost error-free ball, having only one error for the evening taint the 12-hit game.
Sunday night was a tough game for the Selma squad, as well. The 7-1 loss was made possible by relentless Prattville hitting. D.W. Post went 2-for-3 for the evening, scoring two runs, while teammate Josh Loy was 2-for-4. Josh Shedd, Ricky Pierce, and Kyle Bellflauer all went 1-for-3 for the evening.
Selma’s Josh Stokes went 1-for-2 for the evening, scoring his team’s only run. Teammate Joshua Gardner was 2-for-3 with a single and a double, while Bert Nichols was 1-for-3, roping a double.
The losses placed Selma as the runners-up in the district championship. Prattville will move on to the state tournament, which is Friday, July 13 in Thomasville.
