Kenneth Raymond Lavender Jr.

Kenneth Raymond Lavender Jr., 53, of Selma, died Monday, July 1, 2002 at his home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, July 5, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Turner officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a sister, Linda (Ted) Evans of Jasper; a niece, Rebekah (Mark) Farrar of Tulsa, Okla.; a nephew, Samuel Evans of Jasper; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family visitation will be Friday, from 1 – 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Ovetta Rascoe

Ovetta Rascoe, 95, of Orrville, died Monday, July 1, 2002 at a local hospital.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 7m, at Mt. Olive P.B. Church, Marion Jct., with the Rev. Edwin Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include four sons, Elijah Harris of Cleveland, Ohio, Jerry Hasbery ( Geraldine) of Orrville, Joe Hasberry (Gladys) and Will Hasberry (Audrey) all of Birmingham; three daughters, Mattie Hasberry and Clara Hasberry both of Detroit, Mich., and Hattie Jackson of Birmingham; one sister, Frances White of Birmingham; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.

Active pallbearers are nephews.

Ms. Rascoe, joined Mt. Olive P.B. Church at an early age and served faithfully until her health failed. She was a loving and kind mother to many.

James W. Ford

James W. Ford, 75, of Selma, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 in Alabaster.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at Brown Chapel AME Church with the Rev. James Jackson and the Rev. Joseph Rembert officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie Ford; two sons, Milton (Chris) Hopkins and Mark Anthony Hopkins; three daughters, Deloris Ford, Wanda (Stan) Williams and Deidre (John) Smith; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and special friends Willie and Althea Shaw of Mississippi.

Active pallbearers are friends.

Mr. Ford was born on Mar. 31, 1927, to the late Hattie Holeman Ford and Wesley Ford in Burleson County in Summerville, Texas.
