Leafs get off to a competive start

Selma’s pro baseball team is back in town.
Don’t know what we’re talking about?
The Cloverleafs. Remember them? They are our new pro baseball team that played three games back in May then hit the road for what has seemed like most of the summer. In fact, when the Leafs last played here it was officially still spring.
The Cloverleafs just completed an 18-game road trip that took them on a 500-mile journey. It was the stuff that makes the minor leagues infamous and has players praying for a chance to move up in the baseball world. The trip included long rides in vans, little sleep and games in strange towns.
Selma’s baseball team came back just under .500 at 10-11.
With the team back home for a while, Selma needs to support the Leafs, who have proven to be competitive in their first year. When it was announced that Selma would be getting a pro franchise our town was abuzz with excitement. Then the season opened with support from the community.
The team is unique in that it has the ability to entertain everyone. Pro sports have a way of creating unity and pride in a town and the Leafs can do that here if we let them.
The initial excitement the Leafs created needs to carryover for the rest of the season. It’s up to us now, to create that excitement. The Leafs offer a good entertainment value and an option that has not existed here in years. For the team to continue to operate in Selma, we must support it.
The shank of the Cloverleaf season is approaching and there will be multiple opportunities for area baseball fans to attend a Cloverleaf game. We hope fans can find the time to get out to Bloch Park and support Selma’s home team.
