After the results were officially tallied, incumbent James Thomas came out the winner in the House District 69 seat runoff against challenger Glen McCord, with Thomas capturing 5,083 votes, while McCord captured 4,066 votes.
Since there are no Republicans in the race, Thomas officially regains his seat as District 69 representative.
Thomas captured three of the four counties in District 69, including Lowndes, Dallas, and Wilcox, while only losing Autauga.
“We ran an excellent campaign and I am looking forward to the future times ahead,” Thomas said. Thomas said that during his new term in office, he would primarily focus on jobs, better health care and education in all four counties.
Thomas, commenting on McCord’s performance, said his challenger “had put up a well fought campaign, and deserved a lot of credit.”
Said Thomas, “We are pleased with this campaign, and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. There is still more to do.”
McCord could not be reached for comment.
