Leafs plan series sweep against Arrows

The Selma Cloverleafs are now playing ball with a record over .500.

In the middle of a grueling road trip, the Leafs have defeated the Americus Arrows the past two nights to bring their record to 9-8.

Last night, Selma handed the Arrows an 11-2 drubbing, outhitting the Arrows 16-7.

Jon Renfro, a right-handed pitcher, picked up the win for Selma, allowing only four hits and one earned run. Renfro also struck out three.

Offensively, Selma designated hitter and manager Merritt Bowden was 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBIs. Brock Lowell went 3-for-4 for the evening, adding another homer to the Leafs’ tally and grabbing two RBIs. Desmond O’Quine was also 3-for-4, doubling and picking up two RBIs. Jose Colon was 2-for-5, picking up a double and an RBI.

In Tuesday night’s game, which Selma won with a score of 4-1, southpaw pitcher Bryan Rushton was the winning pitcher, giving up only one run and no earned runs. Rushton struck out two and walked six batters. Newly-signed pitcher Eric Turnrose took his turn on the mound next, getting two strikeouts. Dennis Gomez got the save for the Leafs in the ninth inning.

At the plate for Selma, both Colon and O’Quine went 2-for-4 with one double each and an RBI. Keith Sills hit his second home run in the last week with a solo homer that resulted in his going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Hoping to make it a clean sweep of things, the Cloverleafs are scheduled to end their series with the Americus Arrows tonight with a game at 6:35 p.m. Eastern time.
