The Dixie Boys baseball league (age 13-14) started its tournament to battle for the title of league champions on Tuesday, June 11. The tourney is scheduled to culminate in a 6 p.m. championship game on Friday, June 14 at the softball complex. The top four teams in the eight-team league, which are Pepsi, Talton, Family Medicine, and Pilcher-McBryde, are competing for the title of city champions.

On Tuesday night, number-four seed Talton took on number-one ranked Pepsi. Pepsi won the opening game 18-8, keeping them in the winner’s bracket.

Pepsi’s Marcus Perryman was the winning pitcher for the evening, adding a 3-for-4 offensive showing with a triple and two RBIs, while Talton’s Chase Sanders grabbed the loss.

At the plate for Pepsi, Ben Callaway was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, while Blake South went 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Bryan Sewell had four RBIs and a double, going 2-for-4, while teammate Jeremy Harrison was 2-for-2 with one RBI. Josh McAteer was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple in the win.

For Talton, Cajun Pritchett was 2-for-2 and had one RBI, while teammate Jimmy Smith hit a home run and went 2-for-3.

In the second game of the evening, which pitted number-two ranked Pilcher-McBryde against Family Medicine, the number three pick, Family Medicine defeated the higher-ranked team 10-7.

Shane Moreland picked up the tournament win for his team, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs in addition to pitching the win. Teammate Jeffery Anderson was 2-for-4 for the evening with four RBIs, while Will Summerlin was also 2-for-4, picking up two RBIs. Summerlin had two doubles for the evening.

Pilcher-McBryde pitcher Cody Warrington

was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs in the effort, while teammate Ware Cox went 2-for-4.

The Dixie Boys tournament is the culmination of a season of tough competition and hard work for baseball players. When the tourney is finished and the league has completed play, the 13-14 year All-Stars will be announced exclusively to the newspaper. Look for the list in Sunday’s edition of the Times-Journal.
