Bama,
Sometimes headlines take shortcuts. We avoided the "to" "two" thing by using just one.
Thanks for reading.

We appreciate the comments on this story, both critical and in support.
We asked a sister paper if they were covering the Morgan game. The paper told us yes. We asked them to share the story.
We received the story about 45 minutes before time to close out the sports section for the press. We were disappointed about the coverage, but with so little time, we had few choices.
We tried to call the coach to see if we could get some stats. We couldn't get the coach (it was quite late by now). The debate was whether to run a box reporting the score or to run the story submitted by the other newspaper.
I opted to run the story. The decision was mine. As you guys point out, it is better to have a story than to have a box, especially on the largest private school in our coverage region.
The point is: There was no maliciousness intended. We made the best use of our resources, considering the time and distance of the game.
This was a "perfect storm" of crunching time and space that led to Morgan getting the short end of a story.
I apologize.
One thing about all this — Morgan has great fans. If some of those fans want to keep stats for us at away games, we'll be happy to take call-ins as we do for other schools that play away, then put the story together. Call me at 410-1730 or e-mail me at leesha.faulkner@selmatimesjournal.com.
We know it's not your job to do this, but all newspapers use folks to call in games they can't cover. It's part of the Friday night madness in newsrooms all over the U.S.
Thank you again for your comments. We learn from them. They help us in our coverage and to know what's going on with our readers.

We have problems with the blogging because of a lack of connections at these schools. I'm sorry for the difficulty

Bama,
We post stories off the AP Wire when we think you might be interested in them. These stories occur during the day as we're putting the Selma news together as well.
If you'll notice, you do get Selma news during the day. Many times you receive live blogs, such as the weather.
We thought you might be interested in the Black Mayors Conference cancellation because Perkins once was a high-ranking official in this and we fully expected Mayor George Evans to attend.
Thank you for your comments.

We had a blog featuring a clip of the "Thriller" video up on the Web site shortly after MJ died (go to blogs and check out Clearing the Cobwebs). We also had a story on page 7 of the STJ Wednesday about MJ's will.

The story about the fatality at Water Avenue and the bypass was reported in the Wednesday edition of The Selma Times-Journal. Not all stories that appear in the newspaper appear online. And not all stories that appear online appear in the newspaper.

Everybody,
Just to clear up some misconception here. Everyone in the newsroom at the STJ is required to blog by first and last name.
And I know Pari's identity, and she does not work for the STJ.

Native,
Thank you for your comments and your pointers. However, journalists write less formally than they did 60 years ago, even 30 years ago from when I began my career.
With the advent of the Internet and the demand for pithy writing, the old journalistic prose is long gone.
In addition, journalist also have different rules for style determined by The Associated Press Stylebook.
All that being said, we should strive to make our stories easy to understand.
Again, thank you for your critique.
