I agree there has been some vandalism at the skate park, but I really think that the city needs to investigate who is doing it. The skaters I have been in contact with have been normal kids. They have helped my young son and even gave him pointers. During the summer, I would play tennis with my daughters while my son used the skate park. The only thing that made me nervous was that the skate park did not have its own lighting. The lights from the tennis courts only halfway illuminate the skate area and to me that is the real safety issue.
Sure some of the children curse. However, when they see a “mom” out there they tend to clean it up. Speaking of cleaning it up, I have seen the skaters cleaning up broken beer bottles and trash around that area. They had to if they wanted to skate safely. The best thing I see when I am over in that area is both black and white skaters using the park…TOGETHER! It seems that those who use the skate park do not realize social racial mixing is a taboo in Selma… or that they wonderfully choose to ignore it! For that reason alone I think we should put more money into that area of the park.
I personally have heard Elton speak down to youths and found that his words and actions were appalling. He has way too much job security to realize that he works for all the people here in Selma.
Perhaps Elton Reece wants to close down the park so he can funnel any repair money over to the restaurant down at the river. Everyone knows he is pushing that ludicrous idea of placing a structure in a flood zone, just so he will be well set up when he retires. One would assume that this is just another way for the “good old boys club” helping to finance one of their own.
I think the mayor needs to get his head out of the sand and REALLY look at what is going on with his departments and their heads. Only then can this city stop wasting money and use the few tax dollars we get where it is most needed!
If the skate park is closed, this is one momma that will join the skaters in protest.

To add to saveselma's comment, I also sleep with a 155 lb dog that is NOT a vegetarian! We have a rule in this house...the dog bites and then I shoot. Whatever is left the SPD can have.

Brownstone Manor will be open for the paranormal tours starting on Thursday March 18th, 9-11 PM. This will be a rare opportunity for Selmians to particiapte in a real Ghost Hunt. I know my family can not wait to attend!

Although I am hoping that the Saints win, I refuse to butcher the English language by saying "Who dat". If it was not for the sacrifice of our grandfathers during both WWI and WWII, we would now be required to speak German, Japanese or even Spanish (as per the Zimmermann Telegram intercepted during WWI). It disgusts me that our language is used like toilet paper with the youth today.

So right jonsavant! I would like to know how Washington can say with a straight face that cost of living is falling? Just compare food bills from last year to the present... my weekly food bill rose over $75 and guess what, I used a reciept from last year and bought the exact same items! To add insult to injury, companies are making packages smaller and STILL the price goes up!
Wake up Washington, You can no longer just tell us to eat cake! The last idiot that suggested that had her head cut off. Maybe the French do have some wise ideas!

Frances, you are a bigoted imbecile that has found a new outlet other than every radio talk show in the city. You want us to believe (because you say it is so) that the murder rate is up now that Evans is in office? What in the world have you been smoking over there in Cedar Terrace? We had 15 murders in one year not long ago under Perk-the-jerk. Things are far from perfect, but heck even if it was, you and your cronies would still find something to throw the “over used” race card at. It is people like you, Co-nothing La-sore-looser and “Super size my value meal” Crenshaw that make Selma the laughing stock of the ENTIRE American Black community. I was up in DC recently and do you know what they said about Selma? They said that the only thing Selma is good for is making political speeches in. We are used by Washington like a slutty prom date. Sure you get what you can from her, but you would never take her home to momma or marry her. Your group and Perkins screwed up us getting the Air Force deal. AF reps were here for weeks looking and listening and what they got was an earful of 105’s negative race baiting. I would sit down at lunch (and sometimes dinner) with them and would try and excuse the inexcusable behavior. There have been no less than 2 other companies that have sent in reps to check us out. I know one that said the only way they would ever consider putting a plant here is if the race baiters were dead and buried.
So keep up the good work Francis…you definitely are making an impact on the future of Selma …for the worse!

@Popdukes- please do not sully the name of Frances Hobbs who REALLY cared for others. Frances Cole has once again showed she really is a wanna-be thug. She kisses the backside and praises Winnie Mandela... a monster who helped with the murder of a child!
Frances Cole is a cancer on Selma and by praising this monster it looks like one tumor lavishing adoration on a larger tumor!
