Please remember that it did not take one day for our city to fall as low as she has. It will not take just a day to fix her either. It will take all of us to set higher standards for our citizens and officials. We have to be accountable for our actions and those we have elected to govern our fair city.
I think that this election has proven that we are not "sheep". We have shown that we have voices and WE WILL BE HEARD! Congrats to all the winners (and soon to be winners). Please remember we will be watching you. As a city we can not let another group of people fleece our city and block progress. We have high hopes for you and I know that a majority of us will work hand in hand with you to make Selma shine once again! It will be a lot of hard work, but together we have shown that nothing is impossible!

FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, SELMA IS FREE AT LAST!
Tonight starts a new day for our beloved city. As citizens of Selma, we must ALL come together and make this a city that is the envy of everyother city. We HAVE to put aside our differences and work as a united force. Together we can do this.

Selma High (Too many to count!)
Edgewood
Did Byrd ever get their's taken care of yet?

Boy did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?
Here I thought one of the charms of Selma was the politeness of its residents. Please go consult your Emily Post book and cheer up... IT"S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sports complex sounds great. But I am very concerned about the money. 4 Million does not look like that much for such a project, but I nearly choked when I heard it broke down to over $38,000 a month for 20 years! Hubby is the math whiz but when I did my calculations it came to almost 10% interest on a 20 year loan that Dr Taylor's group is proposing. All I can think of is DAMN! Is the credit of this city that bad??? The sports plex we have now averages about 5333 paying customers a month (but for only 3 months of the year which breaks down to 1333 people a month for a 12 month cycle). I just can not see where Selma would get the money to pay the enormous monthly mortgage payment!
I would suggest a special entertainment tax (Memphis has one) but in the long-run it would be felt in the pockets of the residence. I know that with the state of the economy, my family considers things like that as a luxury and we have cut down on all luxuries.
I know I would LOVE to have this wonderful state of the art complex here in Selma. I would also love to have a condo in Manhattan, but baby that just ain't going to happen on hubby's salary!
Like my grandaddy use to say... "babydoll, either earn more or desire less... you can't have both!"

On earlier articles about this case, someone wrote that this was a hate crime. Can someone explain why it would be considered a hate crime? Were the assailants and victim of different races or was there something else that would make one believe that this was a hate crime?
Just wondering.

Face it, like most of our "WannaBe Heroes" in Selma, he would have to make sure it was covered by the media and then brag about it for at least 2 weeks afterwards.
Honestly, I think our new police chief is doing a great job so far. I know he has his hands full with the mess the last one left him.

This is another fine example of our Mayor's great achievements. It was not to long ago he opened the skate park with much fan fair and like 50 other projects I can think of, he tooted his own horn on how much he DOES for this city and then what? NOTHING!!! Just like the Good Sam Hospital, he threw money at a project to make himself look good and then waltzed off to find another wasteful way to build his never ending ego.
Anyone that goes to the skate park (or tennis courts for that matter) had better NOT go to the bathrooms. There are no working lightbulbs, toilet paper or even soap at the sink. What you will find though is broken crack pipes, used condoms, a stench that will melt your contact lenses and graffiti that will make a sailor blush! The Tennis courts need to be resurfaced and it would be nice if there were regular patrols made in the area to ensure women and children are kept safe.
I have a suggestion to the "Wannabe Hero" of Selma (AkA Mayor Perkins), How about actually following through with at least one of your projects BEFORE throwing our hard earned tax dollars at some other ego building, vote gathering project. How about making sure your departments are doing their jobs and above all... STOP WASTING OUR MONEY!
This of course is my humble opinion.

I am going to repost something I said in another blog on here. We as a community REALLY need to start looking at this very serious and growing problem. It does seem that the legal system is failing us, so we need to have our voices heard!
This is part of what I posted earlier...
I spoke to Mrs Maggie Davies (she has made sex offenders in Selma her personal battle for 3 years) and she told me that as of last month we had 91 sex offenders registered in Dallas county with a majority of them living in Selma. Of those 91 creeps, 65 of them perpetrated crimes against children! Some of these are kids as young as as 4 years
old!
She also showed me proof that we have 11 sex offenders living illegally close to 9 of our schools here in Selma. The law clearly states they must not live less than 2000 feet from any daycare or school. I have to wonder why in this day and age this can continue. She also showed me a publication from the Department of Justice that stated...
"Compared to non-sex offenders
released from State prisons, released
sex offenders were 4 times more likely
to be rearrested for a sex crime.
Within the first 3 years following their
release from prison in 1994, 5.3% (517
of the 9,691) of released sex offenders
were rearrested for a sex crime. The
rate for the 262,420 released non-sex
offenders was lower, 1.3% (3,328 of
262,420).
The first 12 months following their
release from a State prison was the
period when 40% of sex crimes were
allegedly committed by the released
sex offenders."
In my humble opinion, this is a gamble too great to subject our children to.
Mrs. Davies said that anyone who would like to contact her can do so about this ever so growing problem. Her email is D_davies@bellsouth.net . She has already met with cityhall and the last police chief. I just hope soon she will not still be the only soldier in this war to protect the children of Selma!

Face it, they only thing those 2 have done since getting into office is to line their own pockets, make a spectacle of themselves and keep Selma from going anywhere! It does not surprise me in the least that they did not stay!
