Morgan Academy falls 14-0; Dallas County wins first game

After winning two games in a row, the Morgan Academy Senators fell to Lee Scott 14-0 in Auburn on Friday night.
Lee Scott was the first to put any points on the board, but even that came late in the game. The Warriors scored in the second quarter with 6:10 left to go before halftime when Lee Scott got seven points. The 7-0 margin stood up until halftime.
Morgan held the Warriors scoreless in the third quarter, but so did Lee Scott.
The Warriors scored the last touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter with 7:40 to go.
Both touchdowns were on carries by Lee Scott.
Morgan’s quarterback Austin Smitherman completed 8-of-16 passes for 71 yards and picked up another 71 rushing yards. McCain Levins had eight carries for 26 yards.
Leading the defense was Frankie Wilbourne with 10 tackles — one for a loss and one sack. Ethan Fancher had nine tackles and Taylor Boone had eight, including two for loss and two sacks.
“Both teams came out and played hard,” Morgan coach Brian King said. “Lee Scott got a touchdown right before halftime and then in the fourth quarter.
King said he was proud of the Senators.
“We played a good game, but couldn’t fully stop them defensively,” he said.
Morgan will be on the road again at Tuscaloosa Academy next week. TA lost to Prattville Christian 49-0 Friday.
Dallas Co. 22, Holt 14
HOLT — Dallas County grabbed its first victory of the season under first-year head coach Darryl Burns with the win over the Ironmen.
The game did not start until 8:30 p.m. Friday because of the weather, especially the intermittent lightning, Hornets assistant coach Robert Dolbare said after the game.
Dallas County, 1-3, takes on Francis Marion at home Friday in its next action. Francis Marion (0-4) lost to St. Jude 48-0 on Friday.
Other scores from Friday night’s Central Alabama schools include Clarke Prep 22, Meadowview Christian School 8; Greensboro 8, Soth 6; Zion Chapel 39, Keith 26; and R.C. Hatch 14, Highland Home 0.

Has Meadowview become the red headed step child of the Selma Times Journal? It has now been 2 weeks since we've had more than 10 words total said about us. We too, at Meadowview do like to hear about our school. So whatever problem is between the sports writer and the coach needs to be resolved, or find someone else to do the sport editing.

Last time I checked Meadowview couldn't beat its own JV team and the previous articles the coach wouldn't give a comment. So you get exactly what he is giving the score!

It's rather sad that Selma High isn't large enough to play teams like Sidney-Lanier, Lee, or Tuscaloos Co. anymore. If Selma keeps dropping in population, they'll be playing Keenen Mill's B team in a few years. popdukes12
