Central Christian Academy returns to action Thursday

Published Wednesday, September 16, 2009

SELMA — Central Christian Academy just returned to the football field this year, and the team hasn’t had a chance to play the past two weeks.

So Thursday night’s eight-man football game against the Tabernacle Torches of Gardendale will be almost like a new beginning.

“Everybody has had the flu bug the past two weeks, so it will be great to get back out there,” CCA football coach Darrell Walker said Tuesday.

CCA takes on Tabernacle (2-3) at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

The Warriors (2-2) picked up its two victories with the Lighthouse flu forfeit and Marion, which forfeited its entire season.

“I guess we’ll take them any way we can,” said Walker, who added his team is itching to play football.

“The kids are very excited, very happy right now,” he said.

Tabernacle will be a strong test for the Warriors, Walker said.

“I know they like to pass the ball and they run the spread offense,” he said. “So we will have to be ready for them.”

Both teams have one common opponent — Victory of Columbus. Gardendale lost to Victory 67-12, while CCA fell 62-6.

Can we get a story about Morgan Academy FOOTBALL the largest private school in your coverage area.

How can an eight man football team run a spread offense? That just sounds stupid...

I agree with 'loveselma', let's have some coverage on the other, larger, private schools.

Coverage of the larger private schools. Really?

Don't know if either of you noticed, but all three of Morgan's games have had a story longer (in some cases, much moreso) than 250 words in the paper.

You may have also noticed that STJ sent a reporter to Morgan-Marengo last Friday, passing up Selma-Wilcox - a matchup between two area public schools - both of which are much bigger than "the largest private school in your coverage area."

Then, lo and behold, a story is actually done on a different school, and the complaints come forth again.

I don't know how to break it, but there is a whole big world outside Morgan Academy, and there are actually people out there interested in reading about other schools. Some of those readers are even fans of CCA or public schools.

Shocking, I know.

CCA is not 2-2 you don't count a win when the school (Marion) never put a team on the field. After last night they are 1 and 3. With the only win so far being a forfiet. Maxpreps.com has them list as 1 and 3. As far as coverage the paper could do a better job by covering all the schools better. Maybe the paper will look at this and do a better job.
