Obomanu qualifies for school board race

Published Thursday, September 10, 2009

SELMA — Brenda Randolph-Obomanu is a candidate for Selma City School Board District 2 seat in the Oct. 27 election.

She brings to the table 22 years of teaching experience, which includes working with children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

She said she is prepared to address some of the major topics in education, such as budget, dropout prevention, increased use of technology in classrooms and motivation of students to achieve academic success.

“Most of us agree that communities are affected by the caliber of education that it provides to its students,” Obomanu said. “Selma has always been known as the Queen of the Black Belt. It is now time for Selma to be known as a city that puts education at the top of her priority list.”

Obomanu said she feels the school board is the essence of a school system.

Obomanu is employed as the guidance counselor for J.F. Shields High School in Beatrice.

She is a product of Selma City Schools. She received an associate’s from Selma University. Obomanu earned a bachelor’s in electrical engineering technology from Alabama A&M and a master’s from Alabama State University with a major in mathematics education. She has additional endorsements in specific learning disabilites and school counseling.

She has two children, also products of Selma City Schools.

Her daughter, Yulonda, is a graduation coach at Keith High School. Her son, Benjamin, is completing an MBA while working as a professional athlete.

Finally a good candidate with credentials and experience. No comments when a good write up arrives in the Selma Times Journal for the school board race. How interesting. I wish you well and God's Blessing.

If she can help direct our children to grow up and have the character and integrity that she instilled in her son, then she has my support.
