16-year-old racks up felony charges across 4 counties

Published Wednesday, September 2, 2009

SELMA – A 16 year-old Uniontown resident is facing a felony charge in Dallas County and possibly two more in two different counties after one free-for-all night through four counties.

Perry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dontey Williams Saturday afternoon, and Monday he stood in front of Judge Bob Armstrong for a rape first-degree charge in Dallas County.

“We have asked for $1 million bond,” District Attorney Michael Jackson said. “The judge has taken it under advisement.”

The night that led to a rape charge in Dallas County, a possible kidnapping first-degree charge in Montgomery County and another possible burglary first-degree charge in Perry County started in Montgomery Aug. 27 at 8 p.m.

Authorities said Williams allegedly kidnapped a female from Montgomery at gunpoint. He allegedly used her vehicle in the drive that crossed four counties and caused up to three felonies.

“The suspect took the victim from Montgomery to Uniontown because that is where he is from,” said Sgt. John Hatfield of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department. “There was a high speed pursuit in Perry County, but he got away.”

After the chase in Perry County, Williams and the victim went back into Dallas County.

“According to reports, [Williams] found a secluded place in Dallas County and raped the victim,” said John Oxford of the district attorney’s office. “He then took her in her car to a residence in Uniontown.”

Back in Perry County, Williams allegedly broke into an home and stole money from the owners, who were sleeping in in the house.

The victim got away from Williams at this point and fled to a house on Alabama Highway 5.

She called for help and was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Authorities said Williams used the stolen money to party, but on Saturday that would come to an end.

He was arrested in Perry County by the sheriff’s department and then interviewed by Sgt. Johnny Tubbs of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation Hatfield, who represented Dallas County law enforcement.

“As of now, he has been charged with rape in the first-degree in Dallas County and there are pending felony charges in the other counties,” Hatfield said. “I don’t know if the warrants have been filed yet. This was an investigation that spanned four jurisdictions and involved many agencies.”

Until Armstrong decides the bond for Williams he will remain in the Dallas County Jail under no bond.

Because Williams is 16 years old and charged with a class-a felony, rape in the first-degree, he was automatically upgraded to adult status under the Code of Alabama.

Kidnapping in the first-degree and burglary in the first-degree are also class-a felonies.

We have asked for $1 million bond,” District Attorney Michael Jackson said. “The judge has taken it under advisement."

Why does the judge have to take it inder advisement? He should not have even blinked. NO BAIL at all, ever. What is going to do if he gets out on bail? Help at a nursing home, work or go to school? I doubt it.

I am with you on this sharon. He could rape again or worst if he is bonded out and victims should be well within their rights to go after the legal system for giving this rapist an opportunity to make bail.

The only advisement I could see the court using would be a "psychological evaluation" to determine his mental status. On the other hand, he could just be suffering from the usual "thug mentality". This kid needs to find a prison fast.

This is a very troubling story in my opinion, the extremes this young man went to seem well thought out and calculated. I hope the young lady get what ever help or/and counseling she need to try and put this ordeal behind her so she can move on in the future. I truly wonder could our penal system help reform him or should we as a society just write him off. He appear to have driven a lot of miles to pull off this unfortunate act.

it is very funny that we can comment on this story but we could not make comments on the story about Meadowview’s coach that is facing felony charges. so let me first comment on that to say what examPle is he setting for the kids?? ever head of conflict resolution?? that is what we as adults suppose to teach kids rite???
BUT BACK TO THE REGULAR SCHEDULE PROGRAMING:
THIS IS A SAD CASE NEVER WOULD THINK A 16YRS OLD KIDS WOULD SO SUCH THING I GUESS IN 2009 THE AGE 16 IS THE NEW 21??? GLAD TO SEE HE IS BROUGHT TO JUSTICE AND I HOPE THE JUDGE IS ONLY GOING TO ADVISE WITH OTHER LAW MAKERS AND UP HIS BOND TO 3MILLION AND HOPE THAT NO ONE CAN EVEN PUT THEIR HOUSE UP TO GET THIS KID OUT CAUSE HE REALLY NEEDS TO BE EVALUATED

These kind of people need to be put under. These kids are getting worse and worse. Look at all the stories....Rape....Purse Snatcher....etc. What is our younger generation turning into? Sharon...I totally agree with you.....NO BAIL and PUT THEM UNDER.

If I were the victim I would show up everytime he had a parole hearing and tell my story over and over. I am ok with my taxes going to keep him away from society. If he is that depraved and indifferent at 16 it can only get worse.

I totally agree. This behavior is unacceptable and heinous.
I too agree that a felony is a felony and if we can post the name of a 16 year old and blog about his criminal acts, the same should be done for an adult who faces felony charges. (Yes, that was yesterdays news, but I’m going to keep bringing it up until someone explain...respond to the email inquiries STJ)

On another note, I hope parents will print this story for their daughters. There are a lot of young men out there who appear to be good friend/boyfriend material and they are not at the very least good company. (Btw, I’m in no way suggesting that this was the young lady's fault or that this thug was friend of hers) However, with so much sex exploited in society that target our young girls, I hope this is a lesson in disguise to be extremely careful of those around you including the young of age.

People on here are using some sound logic today. Have you found any answers to why the MCS Coach article was disabled yet?

For being only 16 thats hard to believe!!! You cant just lock this kid up his whole life. I'd say send the kid off to boot camp and lock his PARENTS up!

So whodat,

You're suggesting that if the sixteen year old was working and paying into the tax system, he would be justified in committing a felony?

Posted by selmaOnMyMind (anonymous) on September 2, 2009 at 2:34 p.m. (Suggest removal)

How is that this kid is a "thug", but the assistant coach of MCHS is not? Thug means "A criminal who treats others violently and roughly" I tell you, some of us are tired of hearing the word "THUG" selectively thrown around on these blogs. If anything, be consistent in your assessments. Both of them victimized someone, even though what this youth did is more severe than what the coach did. The asst. coach on the other hand is an adult and should have handled what whatever disagreement he had with the head coach in a more civil and private manner. Wish we were ALLOWED to comment on THAT story.

I still have this strange feeling the toxic waste dumped over in Perry County supported by Comm. Turner is leaking into the water system already. Maybe this gave him super toxic powers to escape so easily. Come to think of it, this could be the reason for the 200 person battle over there the other day and Comm. Turner's lack of presents here in Dallas County lately.

ok to satisfy some of you on here the "FORMER" Meadowview Assistant Coach is a "THUG".......

Hope you feel better now, thought I would put it on this site, since we cannot blog on the actual site.....

However, I'm sure it will be removed......

Speaking of Perry County, I bet I know the master plan over in there now. I just figured it out. Comm. Turner is allowing the toxic waste to enter the county to not only line his pockets, but because he has stood by this waste being 100% healthy and clean. Then when the waste is discovered to actually be toxic like it actually is, then he can counter lawsuit and win everybody in the county money!!!

After reading all the media reports a couple weeks ago from the new spillage in Tennessee where over 100 people had to go to the hospital...and TVA had to fund their medical test..but the test had to remain sealed and confidential...I am willing to bet that it's 100% healthy and clean. But who would know sense the test are to remain "Confidential" for some strange reason?!?! Just another politician selling YOUR soul for a dollar.

I saw a very revealing program on tv recently about the mess in Kingston, TN that was donated to AL. People from the area talked about the affect of the ash on the environment and about how bad the ash was for people. I think arsenic and titanium were too nasty substances mentioned. There has to be corruption in regard to this so-called clean up involving the use of Perry County.

Why can we comment on this story but not the Meadowview and Dixie Pellets story . . .. the STJ disabled comments on both. . . WHY?

Posted by tomt01 (anonymous) on September 3, 2009 at 9:17 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Two words that will fix the thug problem around the country.

"Capital Punishment"

I don't want any of my tax dollars paying for anyone to live the "life of Riley" in prison.

The wood "Pellets" called and said they don't want to be discriminated against, but that you could against the wood "Chips". So the disabling of comments must be "racial". (snicker, snicker)

Or protective. What is STJ afraid of? Causes one to wonder.

Im hate to speculate ..but Im wondering if the disabling is "protective"... myself

Sorry bamafan, it wasn't about feeling better. It's about fair and balance! Besides, won't help or hurt to drop the word "thug" altogether. Using it detracts from the subject at hand! And another thing, name calling is so juvenile!!!

One should always practice what they preach!
