Grand jury: No indictment for Selma police officer accused of rape

Published Friday, October 30, 2009

SELMA — A Dallas County grand jury ended the criminal investigation into the allegations that a Selma police officer raped a Selma woman. The jury found that the officer should not be indicted based on the statements of many people.

However, all investigations into the matter are not over. The grand jury said that since some of the sexual encounters occurred while this officer was on duty that they recommended administrative action be taken against the officer.

Chief of police William T. Riley III said now that the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the grand jury concluded the criminal investigation into the matter the administrative investigation would begin.

Here we go...another STUPID comment! Is there anyway that you could learn to post in a normal language and learn how to spell? I guess this just shows how ignorant you are...if you can type...you could surely spell. It's no wonder we are in the shape we are in!!

"IF" the grand jury found enough evidence to send this to trial, and "IF" the officer was proven guilty, then he should have faced the proper punishment. As it is, he should face the appropriate administrative action. Being on Grand Jurys myself, alot of so called rape cases are people "crying wolf" or looking for a pay off. I have been involved in throwing many of these case out.
As for damn_yall....There was more than one witness to the crime that you mentioned. In this case it is "he said, she said", and no you do not take his word just because he is a cop.
Oh, by the way, it is called spell check on your computer. It is a great tool to use and it will help you to not look like a dumb_ _ _!!!!!

You know that saying "one bad apple spoils the bunch", it's time to stop Selma from being that bunch. One or a few people should not dictate the future of a great town. Even if you have moved or are still here, Selma is a place that we should be proud to say that we are from. I have moved went to college and still came back, for what to answer some questions, family is important to me, and I like to be surrounded with that great support system.. let's take back our city.!!!!

Selma's demographics have changed over the last 20 years or more. Good families have moved. People that made up a higher number of "good folks" that worked, contributed, paid taxes, shopped locally, invested, etc. left. There are still some of these people here, but not many. You almost can't blame some of these families for taking advantage of another opportunity for themselves and their children.

It's a task to live here. You have to adapt to the environment which is steep in blame, guilt, finger pointing, race laced, etc. Even when one has done nothing but stuck a hand out, sacrificed, been fair and tried to make this town a special place.....you still get knocked down and stereotyped as being the "oppressor". After years of having this shoved in your face at every facet, it gets real old. There isn't but so much of that before you grow tired and would rather be somewhere that doesn't take so much effort to "just be".

I'm really starting to wonder if these people that drag this town into the ground are satisfied? It really has to get old claiming the same struggles and making the same excuses year after year. I'm also starting to wonder who in the h(&% they are even pointing the fingers at? All I seem to see is inner implosion from this same group that is claiming all of this. It's really become some pseudo argument or debate. After this many years, it has totally lost most relevance and substance. I worry about these people that are engulfed by paranoia and strife. I really wonder the ultimate agenda here. I can honestly say it's not to unify and create harmony....matter of fact...it's just opposite.

People will dwell on this issue no matter what the outcome. It was reported by the news that this matter was investigated by an outside law enforcement agency, once the investigation was completed it was presented to the grand jury for their review, they no billed it. Case Closed as far as any criminal procedings. Even though the grand jury did suggest administrative actions, it was no billed. I am confident that the police department will handle that aspect of the investigation.

As I said, no matter what someone is gonna bitch. A Dallas County Grande Jury was given the investigation which was completed by an outside agency and they NO BILLED it. Now for those of you who are evidently stupid, NO BILL means that there was not enough evidence for him to be arrested and tried for this accusation. Now for those who are ignorant to the fact, a grand jury is comprised of a group of CITIZENS who have nothing to do with law enforcement and only hear the facts available to make such a decision. Their decision was to NO BILL it. I am sure that if there had been any evidence that the accusation was valid then it would have been TRUE BILLED. I'll let some of you figure out what that one means. Please, do you honestly think that the mayor, city council, and chief of police would sit back and cover up something of this caliber.

Oh, I am scared to call the police to my house! That is stupid!

The above article states "since some of the sexual encounters occured while he was on duty", since when have "some sexual encounters" been considered rape, if both are adults. That, in itself makes it an internal matter. Having sex is not a crime, but rape is. I feel that the Grand Jury believed this was not forced on the other person, so it did not constitute RAPE. I would be fired quickly if I had sex at work, but it still would not be criminal. It's my opinion, from the article, that the "no bill" was the proper vote, so as not to waste the time and money of the court system. THANK-YOU, members of the Grand Jury, whom-ever you are.

This just reminds me of the lady that waited 12 days to report being raped. When the Policeman asked her why she waited so long to file a report since she only lived about a block from the Police Station, she said she just found that day. She was notified by bank that his check had bounced. I think that happens a lot in Selma with many situations. Just because someone is crying wolf , doesn't always mean one is there.

i will not stop for the cops now at night or out of view even in the daytime we have a mad rapist on hand and he have not been identified so if we cant trust the police department who can we trust this is really bull crap now you guys see why the crime rate is so high even the police is commenting these crimes like once said before now im saying it again the police station is behind all the crimes that goes on here in selma

Posted by WellSTJ (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 3:07 p.m. (Suggest removal)

blah blah blah take up for the police officer if this was another type of situation involving your average everyday citizen some of the same people will have things to say about them or what happend calling them thugs etc... when u really dont know the situation about their case so i really believe i can say what i wanna say about this situation !

Posted by WellSTJ (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 3:16 p.m. (Suggest removal)

anywho been a police officer on duty i thought they supposed to be doing a job preventing crime and stopping crime but i see now they are having sex instead and rapping people!once again thats why the crime rate is so high!!!

Posted by tbrb (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 3:16 p.m. (Suggest removal)

They need to be listing the name of this officer for the public's safety. I do not want to be stopped by an officer that has committed rape.

Posted by scruffy2436 (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 3:20 p.m. (Suggest removal)

WellSTJ, you certainly have the right to your opinion, but so does everyone else. As for you not stopping, go ahead. Then you get charged for evading. That sounds like a "very" smart idea.
And since it sounds as though you have never served on jury duty you need to know how it works before you say that all the crime is due to the police. I know since I have been on both Grand Jury and Trial Jury.
As the article stated, it sounds as though the sex was consensual, (both people agreed to it), so it could not be rape. There is more to this story than we know.

Posted by WellSTJ (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 4:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)

yes you are right.. for your fyi i have been on jury duty!!! just like other articals have things that have been stated but some people miss read that also! well atleast try 2 act like they did and make their personal opinion about thoes articles like im making mines.. yes u are right there is always more 2 every story but how do u know it was consensual sex? was u there when both parties agreed 2 the sex? so if so you must be the officer!

Posted by WellSTJ (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 4:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

anywho an on duty officer suppose to be doing ther job protect and serve our community cause we all pay taxes so they can drive around serve us not for him 2 be getting pleased n pleasure off our gas that we put n his police car! its not like they dont get off sex should come on his off duty time not on his on duty time so if he is thinkin about sex why on duty and couldnt wait untill off duty maybe he did rape this woman!

Posted by WellSTJ (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 4:50 p.m. (Suggest removal)

that's why he is n this situation now!

Posted by WellSTJ (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 4:54 p.m. (Suggest removal)

now we see where our taxes are going on paid on duty officers who is havin sex n commenting rape why on duty and getting paid for doing it.......sad

Posted by WellSTJ (anonymous) on October 30, 2009 at 5:51 p.m. (Suggest removal)

scruffy2436 you are right i would be charge with evading! I truly believe it would be worth it... so to solve that problem with me bein a woman and for other women he should be fired for that type of behavior anyways to make the women citizen feel more safe and not afraid of the police!

it pays alot when you want your town cleaned up from the police station, city hall, streets etc.. when your livin here with an family with small children! so we all can be safe like some other small towns are...thank you much popdukes12!

Posted by scruffy2436 (anonymous) on November 2, 2009 at 7:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)

WellSTJ, no I am not the officer in question. Why do I think it was consensual? By the article it seemed to have happened more than once. It would seem as though the woman would have reported it after the "FIRST" time "IF" it was rape.
As always in Selma, guilty until proven innocent. Especially if you have a badge.

Posted by Wedgie (anonymous) on November 2, 2009 at 10:35 a.m. (Suggest removal)

WellSTJ, I think you need to watch Chris Rock's episode about how not to get your a** whipped by the police. It's very informational. ;)
