Two booked on charges in Tues. shooting
Published Wednesday, October 21, 2009
SELMA — Police nabbed two of possibly four suspects accused of trying to kill a 22-year-old Selma man in the early hours Tuesday.
Officers arrested Kevin Moore, 28, and Jamien Brown, 22, and charged them with attempted murder.
Selma police Sgt. Doug Stewart said police responded to a call in the 1800 block of Alabama Avenue to a vehicle with the victim in it, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. A woman was driving the vehicle.
Authorities called the wound “life-threatening.”
“Apparently the vehicle carrying the suspects pulled up alongside the victim’s vehicle,” said police Sgt. Tory Neely. “The suspects opened fire on the victim’s vehicle and struck him.”
The victim, a 22-year-old male, was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center and then later airlifted to another hospital.
Selma Police Department detectives searched for the suspects Tuesday and located them before 2 p.m.
Moore and Brown were booked and processed, then taken to the Dallas County Jail.
Authorities said the two were booked under no bond because of the seriousness and reckless nature of the offense.
Neely said the two have a criminal history.
Police are still looking for additional suspects.
Anyone with information can call the police department at 874-6611 or the Secret Witness Line at 874-2190 or Crime Stoppers at 877-3530. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Crime Stoppers and the Secret Witness Line are both anonymous.

Byron is my oldest nephew.
He was a good kid,
A loving cousin,
A loving son and brother to his 5 siblings.
He will be missed.
Luv you very much Byron,
And rest in peace.

Boy oh boy, the thugs never cease to amaze me with these cowardly acts of shooting. It takes a real man to settle something through words or fists. These cowardly thugs would be nothing without a gun, otherwise, they would be able to make their point without it. Just another thug criminal in Selma headed to prison for for mindless, idiotic acts of violence. Maybe one day this community will take on SELF responsibility and accountability.

1800 Alabama? Isn't that where we had the "girl gone wild" with a meat cleaver a couple of weeks ago? Maybe someone should do a water quality test on that street to see what's causing all the problems. popdukes12

I'm not that old, but I do rememeber a time when if you had a issue with someone you went out back and fought it out. After you were through everything was normaly ok.
In these days of drive by shootings no one is safe. Now don't be mistaken this not only happens in Selma, but it happens everywhere. Maybe one of these days it will change but I doubt it. In the meantime just try to be as safe as you can.

AHhhhhh that clears it up. The corrupt police dept rears its ugly head agian. No evidence , no witnesses just taking the word of anyone who will talk about it. Amazingly they picked these to model Selma citizens out to harass and fasley accuse them. Pleaseeeeeeeee Im glad thats 2 more punks off the street. There is ALWAYS somebody to take up for pukes likes this. THATS the reason this town is going to rot. Its full of excuses and no solutions.

damnyall sounds like on these THUG's baby momma.
I see alot of crime everyday in Chicago,
And there is a lways some ignorant ghetto hoodrat that comes on say all that jibber jabber.
But you never see anything,
Your own son's and boyfriends,
Running around acting like they are at war.
Then you talk about your police department.
Did the police do a drive-by on my nephew?
Do the police make blacks kill other blacks?
Please.
All our race does is make excuses for each other,
And I make none.
No, Byron wasn't perfect,
But he wasn't a killer.
Yes, only cowards carry guns,
Only cowards commit drive-bys.
So you can STFU
And you can burn in he11 alongside those 2 muthafukas.

Well all I have to say is you all are being real jerks about the situation. MIA you are his aunt, you shouldn't even be on here trying to defend Byron's honor to these zombie-minded people. You know how your nephew was and is, remember him in spirit. Be there for his mother and father and siblings. All this arguing back and forth about who is innocent or not, it's not getting you anywhere. Ya'll had it going so bad on the other article the paper has disabled the comments for that article. Popdukes I saw that ish you and someone else wrote on the other article about the woman being put out, first let me tell you, I wouldn't be stupid enough to get put out of my home. As long as I trust and believe in God, I have faith that God will never put my kids and I in that situation. I would feel stupid as Gomer Pyle if I was in her situation. But you have to do right in order for right to follow you. Ya'll need to stop arguing and pray. You basically read the comments that some of you write and determine what type of people you all are. As for all PARTIES involved I am sorry for your LOSSES. My prayers are with all families. And Janedoe, that's sad you still on the computer at 4 am. Dat make me wonder bout all the free time you have on your hands. WAKA!LOL!

It is sad that things like this happen in Selma. I know the two suspects, and nothing can justify what they did or are accused of doing. They both come from grounded families, yet their part time job is the streets. We are not the ones to judge and send anyone to hell. As long as they are still alive they have time to get their lives in order, unlike the life that was taken. Lets pray that before Byron to his last breathe, that he asked God to forgive him of his sins. He had to have been into something that wasn't right, because those guys just didn't randomly decide to shoot or kill him. So instead of us being ignorant about what has happened, lets pray for a better outcome. No sin is greater than the other; we all have sinned, sin and will sin.Get your hearts right and you won't have this animosity towards one another or no one else no matter what goes on.

I would like to say to Byron's aunt Mia you should be remembering your nephew as for who you "think" he was & not worrying about what the people on the Selma Times Journal has to say about him. You look and sound like a immature young girl trying to talk down on other ppl & saying they can burn in hell because your nephew is dead. PEOPLE DIE EVERYDAY! I was always told don't wish things on people that you don't want to happen to you....This crime is nothing new, only thing is it happened in your family, as for you saying to damn_yall she sound's like on of those THUGGS as you say baby mama, no ma'am, she's not!!
See, your reading the paper & interrupting your facts about both on them base on a half a-- article that doesn't include real facts like, why the driver of the white Lincoln that he was shot into left both him & the car at the hospital & got into another car with someone else and left, not even thinking like most people would do to go inside to get help. Who does the car belong to & why were they using it? Why did Byron not have any type of identification on him when they brought him into the hospital & he was brain dead on arrival?
Posted by asg (anonymous) on October 27, 2009 at 10:20 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Why wasn't the driver of the car shot as well, strange don't you think "multiple shots fired" and the driver survived? Why was Byron shot close range on the LEFT side of the head, someone else had to be in the car or the driver of the car did it? Why does the article say a woman was driving the car, when hospital staff works said a dark skin guy was seen getting into another vehicle and it left the parking lot? Why was he with the people/person he was with when he got shot? Why that officer isn’t a suspect? Are the police questioning the people/person he was with to see why it happened & what was going on before it happened? Also, isn't Byron's mother close friends with one of Brown's relatives? Obviously, you’re reading the article and PRE-JUDGING both these two young men. Same goes for the police department, your holding these two men w/o evidence & questioning them trying to get them to tell, if you ask me the police detectives over this case is going by HE SAY, SHE SAY & what people from the PROJECTS SAY…not looking at real fact but just trying to hurry up & solve a case.
Posted by asg (anonymous) on October 27, 2009 at 10:20 p.m. (Suggest removal)
As for the people from the projects making threats to both the young man family members and going around shooting into peoples homes, cars and public open places
What have the police done about that nothing but take there time coming and saying FILE A REPORT? Once again, I can bring up several true events that has happened. Brown’s mother house was shot between 3:30-4:30 in the morning on Sunday. 3 guys from the projects came to his 2nd job on Broad Street a local barber shop and jumped on him while he was at work. Brown was on his way to work on morning to his main job around 6:25-6:30 & he was driving and his tire seem flat, he stopped in the alley way of this house and ended up getting shot in the leg again leaving a bullet hole in his car. His friend, mother house was shot at she went to the mayor about it and I quote, he said “I'll carry a gun if someone is shooting at me like this trying too kill me ” Another incident, in Smokey City, there was several shots fired and a female was hit in the leg. At one of the project boys friends wedding, they jumped on a guy and the police was present at the time. Just last week after Brown & Moore was placed in jail, guys the same guys shot into another one of there friends mother house and car.And if you listen to the people in the streets they all saying it was a set up, a drug deal gone bad (on Byron behalf), & the witness of the shooting is the driver of the car who left him & the car at the hospital. If you look at it, the police is either scared of these guys or working with them or from them.
Just like someone said in a comment only GOD knows who did what & when the truth comes out Selma Times Journal needs to print an apology letter to both those guys families & Selma Police department need to have a lawsuit filed again them. GOOD DAY!
I hope you look, listen & search for now on before you judge!

that's was well said asg...i couldn't have said it better myself...good job...but the fact remains they are scared, working with, or for them...i totally agree with everything you say

asg, I also appreciate your comments, as they do shed much light on the situation. I'm Byron's youngest aunt, and I miss him so much. I would just like to know what happened to my nephew, because regardless of the surrounding circumstances, he belonged to a family that loved him, and still loves him very much. We feel so lost without him, because he truly was a shining light in our lives. The streets saw one side of Byron, which I will not deny, because that is who Byron was, but the streets is not what defined him. He tried his best to protect me, his mom and little sister, and to guide his little brothers the best way he knew how. I just ask that if anyone has any information that would be helpful, please tell the authorities, and if you are uncomfortable doing that, please, email me.
I want the RIGHT people who did this to my nephew to suffer !
