CECIL — The No. 3-ranked Morgan Academy volleyball team remains unbeaten in AISA AA Region 1 play after a 3-0 win over Macon-East Thursday in Cecil.

The first set saw Morgan off to an easy start behind Dee Griffin’s 8-point service run getting Morgan ahead 19-12.

Summer Pugh followed with a service ace to pull the team further ahead 21-13 and Morgan finished the set winning 25-16.

Macon East was not willing to settle for being beaten so easily and came back with full force going up in the second set 5-0.

Morgan managed to tie the score at 10 apiece behind another service run by Griffin, only to have Macon East tie the Senators again, 16-16.

Morgan pulled away to 20-17 on consecutive kills Catherine Armstrong and Mary Peyton Zimmerman but Macon managed to knot it up again, 20-20.

Anne Woodruff served to 23-20 and Morgan held on for a 25-22 win.

The third set saw Morgan get off to a fast start, leading 12-7 but Macon-East kept fighting.

Kills by April Clark and Brandi Sharpe along with a well-timed timeout by Coach Jennifer Moore put a stop to a comeback by Macon East and Morgan won the third set 25-18.

Morgan returns to the court against Evangel Christian today in the Morgan Gym.
