What is this?
Celebrate Concordia soccer
Published Thursday, November 12, 2009
Anyone reading a copy of Tuesday’s edition of The Selma Times-Journal should have been impressed by the story about the Concordia College men’s soccer team.
These 19 guys practice in any open area of the city. They play their home games on the baseball field at Bloch Park.
Some of them come from far away and have had to opt for school and soccer beyond family.
The greatest challenge, however, emerged just prior to their playing for the national championship last weekend. They rode on a bus for 31 hours. On opening day of the tournament, the bus had a flat, making the Concordia players seven hours late.
They had never played in the snow and in 19-degree temperatures.
To go to the tournament, many of these young men had to make personal financial sacrifices.
We’re fortunate to have Concordia College here in Selma.
We should celebrate this success with them and in their honor.
Congratulations, Concordia College soccer men.
