Domestic dispute results in suicide

Published Wednesday, November 11, 2009

SELMA — When police responded to a call of domestic violence criminal mischief they never thought it would end as a suicide.

Police received a call about 5:20 a.m. Saturday about a car being damaged in the 1800 block of Marie Foster Street.

The owner of the car was in an altercation with the offender.

Police Lt. David Evans, a spokesman for the Selma Police Department said, officers responded to the call and were investigating the incident when they heard what they thought was a gunshot.

“The officers located the offender in his vehicle where he had shot himself,” Evan said.

The 38-year-old Selma man suffered a wound to the chest, but he was alive and functioning when officers found him.

He also had possession of the weapon.

Officers worked to secure the scene to ensure the man would not harm others or himself any further.

The man was given medical treatment, but died from his self-inflicted wound.

Evans did not indentify the couple involved.

The Selma Police Department does not identify victims of crimes.

The Selma Times-Journal does not report the names of individuals who commit suicide.

Made up?? Hahahaha As if we don't have enough REAL crime in Selma to report on daily?!?!? Our Police Reports match any "big city" crimes. Makes me proud.

Pardon me, but you never know what is going through someone's head and what they are capible of til they have done it. Crimes of passion do not always end up with one person killing another, sometimes it's someone not being able to deal with the stress and killing themselves. Once again you have people making accusations, assumptions or just ludicris claims that were not there or who know more than the police but won't give any information to help shed light on the situation.

Wedgie, I agree. His family, as well as our church family has lost someone we truly love. We feel an incredible loss and words cannot express how saddened we are and how much we are going to miss him. I wish you all could have witness the "coming together" of our families on Sunday during church service, grieving for our son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, as he was all of this to us. If you feel there is more to this situation, then help the police. But please, respect his family and their feelings.

Having survived 2 suicides in my lifetime, one a family member, and the other a very close friend, this family needs love and prayers. This man has a family, and WE don't need to second guess what happened. They are suffering right now, and will continue to suffer. It takes a long time after an incident like this to be able to call yourself a survivor.
WE never know what was going thru the person's head when they did this, but at that moment they didn't see a way out. PLEASE, just pray for this family, and offer them support in anyway possible. THEY are hurting.

My thought and prayers are with the family. However I don't believe it was a suicide. I've never heard of any one shooting themselves in the chest. I do think further investigation should be done before its too late

From what I understand...The man who shot himself had a history of domestic abuse...or violence. I dont even think he and family lived inthe same house because of that. I dont know all the facts, this is what I've heard from friends and family. My prayers do go out to the wife and kids, they have been through alot...more than just this...and will need help and support for months to come.
