ABI raids Whitehall

Published Thursday, March 19, 2009

State agents with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Alabama State troopers and deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department have raided Whitehall Gaming Center on U.S. Highway 80 in Hayneville.

A resident of Whitehall, Doris Gresham, was inside the building about 5 a.m., when she saw officers come into the gaming establishment. "They were all over the place," she said.

Authorities posted sheriff's deputies and state troopers at the front doors of the gaming center.

James McBride, a security guard who has worked at the center for about 1 1/2 years, said he reported for his 8 a.m. shift, but was turned away. McBride said state Attorney General Troy King visited Whitehall about a month ago to check the machines on site.

STJ Managing Editor George Jones is on the scene. Check back here for updates and in Friday's print edition for more information.

Jesus says in the Bible that gambling is a sin, Be careful your sins will find you out.

It's comical to me the same "Christian Coalition" out of Montgomery that was behind the huge push to say NO to an Alabama Lottery and Gambling was the same "Christian Coalition" that was PROVEN to have accepted Indian Casino Money from Mississippi to run the "Vote No" campaign in Alabama. HYPOCRITES!!!!! Now "Conservative Alabama" wants their share of the Casino Profits for funding. Now the economy has gone to pot, they'll sacrifice their morals and ethics to get their hands on their share of the casino taxes. Backward Hypocrites!!!

They need to leave those people alone....If they want to game let them. The unfairness is who they bother and who they don't. The only "Legal" ones are the indians.....I don't think McGregor is an indian....he may be.

Milton McGregor will be the one laughing in the end. Mark my word. The man is no fool and has more money than the State of Alabama. Is it election time coming up yet....guess Troy king is looking for votes with this move.

IT IF IT IS NOT LEGAL WHY DID THEY BUILD THE CASINO AND OPEN UP! I DONT UNDERSTAND.

Posted by Newswatcher (anonymous) on March 19, 2009 at 1:28 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Exactly....why let it get this far???

Posted by eyeonyou (anonymous) on March 19, 2009 at 1:51 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I think it was Alabama turning it's head and not enforcing it for this long. Must have been a few loopholes. Now that our Nation is in a crunch, it's easier for the powers that be to single out a tax revenue like Slot Machines as a scapegoat to get money. It's kind of like prohibition, do away with all alcohol.....then the governement gets to get their hands in on it....then it's okay. Hypocrites are killing this State.

That's right...ENFORCE those morals and ethics on everyone. Might as well take away the alcohol too since it's not the "Christian" thing to do. Nothing like the government imposing their christian values upon US. Let's keep sending our tax money to Georgia, Tenn., Miss., Florida to build up their new road, schools, etc. All the while...go sit in church on Sunday...then run over to Miss. Casino's on Saturday...then vote NO on the gambling bill.

I WONDER CAN I GET SOME OF MY MONEY BACK?

Posted by bamafan (anonymous) on March 19, 2009 at 4:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)

There are alot of things in life that are a sin, it is up the individuals if they chose to sin or not.

Look people Alabama schools are in dire need of funding, and if legalizing gambling would benefit our childrens future by people wanting to SIN then let them SIN, and build the Alabama education system back to where it needs to be!!!

If you don't want to gamble then don't, that is your right!!

It appears people are gonna continue to do it, however I would rather it benefit OUR state than our neighbors......

Everybody on this earth are sinners. Because you choose not to gamble doesn't make you sin free. You have another vice whether it's food, cigarettes, tv, sex ,etc. SO what's it matter to people of this state whether we have the right to gamble. If the money can be guaranteed to stay in EDUCATION ONLY.....GO FOR IT!!!

Eyeonyou i agree..if the money is going to benefit the EducationSystem why not...Lords knows the Education System here, needs all the money it can get.......I dont think any of us are sin free,so people get a grip.....
