Selma University adds Ga. baseballer
Published Wednesday, June 24, 2009
Selma University head baseball coach Raymond Brown said Michael Partridge of Riverdale, Ga., has become the team’s seventh signee.
Partridge is a 2008 graduate of North Clayton High School, where he was three-year starter at first base. In his senior season he was a .400 hitter and was also a starter at right tackle for the football team and played one season of varsity basketball.
“Michael brings us some size and strength to go with the speed we have recruited,” Brown said. “He has leadership ability and is a tough-minded young man.”
Baseball was discontinued at Selma University in 1997. The rebirth will be complete Feb. 5, 2010, when Morehouse opens Selma’s season.
In addition to Partridge, the other signees include Talladega County Central’s Derrick Cheatman, who played third base; Anthony Brown Jr. of McIntosh, a high school shortstop who transferred from Alabama A&M; Dontavious Surles of Central Hayneville, who is playing second base in the summer leagues; Central Hayneville’s Alzavian Rush, who will compete for shortstop; and infielder Jeremy Phillips of Selma.
