Evans seeks seat for District 69

Published Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Barbara Evans of Lowndes County will seek the District 69 seat for the Alabama House of Representatives in 2010.

District 69 includes Wilcox, Lowndes and parts of Dallas and Autauga counties.

“The people of the Blackbelt know me and my work”, said Evans. “I have spent six years working with the Alabama Legislature creating and pushing legislation to make our lives better”

Among the bills that Evans helped get passed is the “Baby Douglas Law” that protects children in day care and the Alabama Landlord Tenant Act.

“I am proud that I was successful in stopping legislation that would have been detrimental to nursing home residents and the staff of nursing homes,” she said.

Evans formerly directed the consumer organization Alabama Watch, lobbying for better consumer laws, and currently works as the Community Organizing Coordinator for WildLaw, a nonprofit environmental law firm.

Evans’ volunteer work includes Community Associate with the Blackbelt Community Foundation, a founder of Rural Enrichment Accessing Community Hands, and she was instrumental in defeating proposed landfills in Lowndes and Macon counties.
