District Attorney opposes landfill in area he covers

Published Friday, June 19, 2009

Dear editor,

I am vehemently opposed to the toxic ash/trash from Tennessee being dumped in the Uniontown landfill. I will be contacting Gov. Riley, our U.S. senators and U.S. congressmen to see if there is anything that can be done to stop this from happening.

The citizens of the Black Belt and Alabama deserve a decent quality of life like everybody else. I strongly disagree with Commissioner Albert Turner Jr. that this ash/trash is safe. The potential for increased cancer rates and other diseases are some of the reasons that most other states turned down the chance to receive this waste

Michael W. Jackson

District Attorney

Fourth Judicial Circuit

Bibb, Dallas, Hale, Perry & Wilcox counties
