Arrest made in burglaries
Published Friday, June 19, 2009
Authorities with the Dallas County Sheriff's Department have arrested a suspect believed responsible for numerous burglaries in the River Road area.
Deputies have charged Anthony Caver, 20, with seven counts of burglary in the third degree.
"The Selma Police Department arrested the suspect over the weekend for criminal trespassing third degree, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest," said chief deputy Randy Pugh. "Deputies had interviewed him that Friday because we had some leads. Wednesday, Sgt. John Hatfield interviewed him again with new information and he confessed to seven burglaries."
The arrest report listed Caver's address as 9632 River Road, which is in the area of the burglaries.
Now authorities have the task of attempting to recover all of the stolen property. Pugh said deputies and investigators have searched three houses and recovered some property.
"We know that relatives and friends have other property. Right now we are on the edge of not working with them when they call. We are about to start charging them with receiving stolen property or possible burglary if they are connected. We are at the end of our rope, waiting to give them a chance to step forward. If they have stolen property, they might want to leave the light on at midnight because we will be stopping by."
Authorities say more charges may be added, totaling as many as 11 counts of burglary in the third degree.
Caver faced only misdemeanor charges before Wednesday.
Deputies placed Caver in the Dallas County Jail under bonds totaling $105,000.
Caver faces seven class-c felonies. If convicted of one count, he could face imprisonment from one year and a day to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $15,000.

I agree, the SO and PD both do great work with their limited resources. If he is found guilty I hope a hand-smacking judge doesn't give him his walking papers!
