Suspect in weekend shooting faces capital murder charges
Published Wednesday, July 8, 2009
A Selma man accused of a July 4 murder sits in the Dallas County Jail.
Leon Clemont Hudson, 35, turned himself in to the Dallas County Jail after learning police obtained a warrant Wednesday afternoon.
Officers charged Hudson with capital murder.
“We made contact with the suspect during the course of the investigation,” Sgt. Tory Neely said. “We attempted to conduct an interview with him to get his side of the story. Leon Hudson identified (Sylvester) Smith as his attorney and we attempted to set up an interview through him.”
As detectives tried to set up an interview time they continued on with the investigation of Daron Snowden’s murder.
Snowden, 44, of Selma was shot multiple times early Saturday morning outside Club Entourage, 1212 Alabama Ave.
“At 1:30 a.m. on July 4, two subjects were sitting in a vehicle in the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue,” Lt. David Evans said. “Another subject approached the vehicle and began firing shots at the passenger.”
Hudson allegedly shot the Snowden, multiple times in the head, neck, shoulder and chest according to authorities. Snowden died Saturday from his injuries.
The incident was originally reported as attempted murder, but the death of the victim later Saturday saw the charges upgraded to murder.
“Through our investigation we were able to gather enough evidence to support probable cause,” Neely said. “After we obtained the warrant, officers went to the suspects residence. People there said he had gone to Montgomery to talk with his lawyer about turning himself in. He did turn himself in to the county jail and officers then brought him to headquarters to process him.”
Once Hudson was processed at the Selma Police Department, he then went back to the Dallas County jail and will stay there under no bond. A judge will set a bond at a later time.

I want this guy to give a reason. Why did he risk throwing his life away to take another?

So basically this was an execution style Murder. I don't see any "attempt" in shooting someone multiple times while sitting in their car. The Court TV channel could just set up shop in Selma and film a never ending series of episodes. Geez.

I was shocked when I found out who was accused of the murder of Mr. Snowden.
Coach Leon as many people in the community knows him has been a community volunteer for years...
don't get me wrong nothing excuses him for the decision that he made....
but to know Coach Leon this was heartwrenching for me to find out he has been arrested for the death of Snow.
I knew both of these men personally and am very surpised about this horrific outcome...
These two individuals were friends at one time....I cannot say much on the blog, but Coach Leon was a kind hearted man and would do anything to help the youth he coached every year. I am reluctant to tell my son about his coach...He lost a great assistant Coach last year Mr. James Caldwell and now he has lost his head Coach...
The team took it extremely hard last year when Coach Caldwell died from a heart attack and now this... I don't know what to say...
Personally knowing all in this situation I am shocked to hear this about Coach Leon.
There is more to this story and I hope both families can handle what is to come...they are both suffering a great loss...
I usaually don't babble on the blog...but I am overwhelmed right now..,
Coach Leon, when I was on air in the afternoons would make sure my son made it to football practice and when my car broke down would make sure he made it back home...he was dedicated to the children.
I know he was God fearing and If I had my way I would turn back the hands of time and pray that what ever triggered this loss of reality would have led Leon to prayer and not anger...
One thing about returning to Selma is that when you are well known in the community, you tend to know everyone in cases such as these.
Coach Leon, I pray for you and your family as well as the prayers I have for the Snowden family....
I really do not know what to say, since I saw this article I have been really emotional...this man coached my son and many others....WOW
RIP SNOW.....and may God be with you Coach

Tell me something, are the young men there are at war with one another? The last time I saw a body count like this was in Vietnam. "to me that was senseless" At least in war we did it out of allegiance, plus we were paid!!

Great question outoftowner! If we could find the answer to that question, maybe we could solve the problem. All of these murders in Selma are indictive of what's happening across this country in many, many communities for various reasons. I pray that our communities, nation and world would STOP THE SENSELESS VIOLENCE!!!

This is so horrible, and both families are victims. I mean Selma should be the safest town in the state. There is no reason for all this crime. Everybody know each other, we eat together, play cards together, go to church together, invite each other out on the town, and we have sleep over. So why must we kill each other and harm each other? I mean it is ok to get mad at one another and curse every now and then but to kill. That is crazy.

He might have been good when it came 2 the kids but here is a incident that happen last year around september-october. Two guys sitting in a black truck at conco gas station. We pull up in front of the newspaper stand and snow got out and made it 2 the door of the store. The passenger call him 2 the truck and they slap five and snow went in the store. I thought they was friends and the driver came out of the store and got in the truck. They sat there and waited on snow 2 come out the store. Snow came and got in the car,the driver of the truck came 2 the car and ask him 2 get out and he did, they talk for while and the guy leon pull up and got out and he rush snow. They ended up locking up and falling all over the newspaper stand and my car which got dented up. The 2 guys in the truck said don't break it up. I was calling the police and they seen me calling the cops and they all fled in the truck and a green car. Its all about he couldn't get in the same club he killed him at. He should have been madd with the owner instead of the people that work for him. I think it was premeditated murder. He kept this anger inside of him until he killed him and they was once friends. Also he call a young lady that work at the club and told her that if snow was down there he was gonna mess him up. So selma what u call that! Can we please have some justice!!
R.I.P. Snow. Gone but not 4 gotten.

People this sounds very ugly. "Also he call a young lady that work at the club and told her that if snow was down there he was gonna mess him up." Come on good people of Selma. All this mess could have been stopped. This man life should have been spared. People knowing people. People can we come to a better conclusion than this?

First of all blackknowledge if u can recall when u tried 2 break it up the damange was all ready done my fender was already mess up. U stood there asking what's going on while u looking at ur friend on the passenger side he jumping out saying don't break it up and look at me and he said there wasn't gonna be no jumping in it,u stood there looking ur homeboy 2 and the store guard. Plus the girl that brought him up 2 the store never got out the car, that was a just a lucky encounter huh. Look what pride got leon. U can say what u want but that wasn't no accident even ray charles could see that. Since I don't know what I'm talking about. U should of paid 4 my fender.

I was in the gray car right next 2 the newspapper stand.Snow was riding with me and u came 2 my car blackknowledge thats the reason why he was standing outside my car cause u came and ask snow 2 get out. So tell the real reason then if it wasn't about the club and tell it 2 the police. Since its all about pride. How would u feel if someone shot ur family member five times and killed them. Would u say they innocent of captial murder.

hey, I know this is an emotional time for all, but the information you two are passing is the exact information that the District Attorney Micheal Jackson needs to hear...
Matter of fact this should be testimony in the trial...don't let this blog take away from either Snow's life or Coach Hudsons trail...
I just don't want this to spill over into the community and we have to read another story relating to this situation...
Please contact the DA's office...at this point it is not snitching because its is being discussed on the blog...
Both were barred from Club Entourage for different reasons...Coach Hudson was allowed back and Snows was allowed back that night....so the club had nothing to do with the final outcome...it did not even happen on the property of the club and from what I understand the club was already closed from patrons when all this occured. Don't allow an innocent man (the owner) suffer because of this incident.
Talk to the DA, the driver that night of the murder needs to be honest with the DA the young lady who called the police that night should be honest...the police was called and didn't arrive until 20 min later.
so lisa33 and blackknowledge please deal with this in a different way...don't let this blog fuel the hatred...do the right thing...if you loved or love the one you are supporting, save the taxpayers money and go make official statements to the DA.
Both families are suffering, both men were fathers, both were loved...so don't make this be another venue for the people who think we are a bunch of wild beast something to feed on..
God bless all that is involved right now and pray about it and let the lord guide you in the direction you need to go, but this blog is not it
PEACE!!

Well first of all none of this shouldn't have ever occurred. I knew both of the victims but Snow was my friend and i feel that he didn't deserve to be murdered like that. But noone deserves to be murdered at close range like that. I'm not taking sides because i don't know the real reason they was into it. Yeah true enough Snow had a smart mouth, but he was still cool, you just had to get to know him. For one thing Snow is not going to let you disrespect him. He was the type that spoke his mind. But my thing is why was Leon going around telling people that he was going to kill Snow because he disrespected him and that's a FACT! That was Leon's plans and his intentions and he did just what he said he was going to do. But Lord knows my heart goes out to the Snowden family in New Jersey. I just hope that this will be an eye opening for some of these people in Selma because people are getting killed over stupid stuff.

First let me start by saying that both families are grieving. We should sit back and look at the bigger picture. I too knew both men and were best friends with one.No one deserves to die and another man does not deserve to go to jail for something he did not do. That's right Leon DID NOT kill Snow. The truth will come to the light. But there is a bigger picture; what are we doing to make Selma a safer place? Nothing, this is just one of the many killings that take place. and please believe there are going to be more. Certain people are sitting back and laughing because we as african american are doing away with each other. Come on black leaders in the community we have to start programs to educate our young african american boys and men to better themselves rather than killing. To the Snowden family my prayers are with you. And to Leon hold your head up and be strong.only the righteous shall prevail.

Well to Mandingo 36759 no disrespect to you but if you know that Leon did not kill Snow, then why don't you go forth and tell who did it. I'm just tired of people saying that Leon didn't do it but for these people standing outside the club and they saw when Leon shot Snow, well Leon must have a look-a-like or something. Yeah the truth will come out sooner or later because if Leon didn't do it he shouldn't have turned himself in. Also, if he didn't do it then he shouldn't have been telling people that he was going to kill Snow, and now Snow is DEAD, then who is the Blame?

I've known Leon all my life every since high school. He ran with thugs, always shooting at young kids about stuff he had no knowledge of just because his friends was into it with other people. He was the type to throw a rock and hide his hands. I don't care how people get on here and say how good he was. He was good to them because they didn't know him that well. For what he did they need to run electricity from here to Alaska and plug it up to old Bessie and let her go to work. God Bless!

DrWilliams if you have know Leon all his life you would know that he wasn't that type of person, and yes he did hang with some grimey people but that does not make him grimey. Sweetlolo21 If it come down to my saying something to free a innocent man I will, but there are to many others that were right there that really saw what happen and are now refusing to speak. Leon was no angel and please believe that Snow wasn't eithers. As of right now they both have lost their lives. What are we going to do? Rather getting on here arguing let's get to the bottom of this and find out the truth. If you want the truth just listen to the streets.

I DIDN'T MEAN TO UPSET YOU MANDINGO36759 BUT YOU ARE RIGHT WE DO NEED TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS. YOU ARE RIGHT PEOPLE SAW WHAT HAPPENED AND DON'T WANT TO SAY ANYTHING NOW AND IT'S SAD. BUT IF YOU KNOW FOR A FACT THAT LEON DIDN'T KILL SNOW THEN EVIDENTLY YOU KNOW SOMETHING RIGHT OR WRONG? AND I'M NOT SAYING THAT SNOW WAS NO ANGEL, ALL I'M SAYING IS THAT WHATEVER THEY WAS INTO IT ABOUT WAS PETTY AND ALL THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. IF LEON DIDN'T KILL SNOW THEN WHY DID HE HIDEOUT. EVERYBODY TALKS; THIS IS SELMA, AND SELMA IS SO SMALL AND IF SOMETHING HAPPENS EVERYBODY IS GOING TO KNOW IT. ALL I'M SAYING IS WE NEED TO CRACK DOWN ON CRIME HERE IN SELMA THIS IS JUST GETTING OUT OF HAND.

I am so sorry to hear this about you Leon. I don't really know what happened. Who am I to judge. All I know, is that you have always been nice to me. May God be with you and your family, and the victim and his family. Love Sweetness!!
