2 venues offer fiery display
Published Friday, July 3, 2009
A couple of venues for fireworks tonight are open for those who want to celebrate July 4.
In Selma, Taylorville, the family entertainment center, will host a fireworks show at 9 p.m. Dr. Bruce Taylor decided to host the fireworks display after finding out the city could not afford one. The City of Selma traditionally holds a fireworks show on July 4.
“We want everybody to come and out be a part of the celebration,” said Selma Mayor George Evans.
The city will hold a program at Taylorville, beginning at 8 p.m., then turn the pyrotechnics over to the entertainment center.
Over in Valley Grande, July 4 gets kicked off at the Walking Trail’s City Park at 5 p.m. with a bicycle parade for children up to 7 years old.
After the parade, the games will open; music will begin and the Valley Grande Exchange Club will host and judge a rib cook-off.
People who want to register for the cook-off should be on site by 3 p.m. The cook-off will begin at 4 p.m. with the judges’ decisions by 7 p.m.
Fireworks in Valley Grande begin at 9 p.m.
