Jaguars shoot lights out in win over Saints

Wilcox Central jumped on Selma early en route to a 77-66 win over Wilcox Central on Saturday in Camden.

“I think it was a big win for our continued confidence and motivation,” said Wilcox Central coach Mark Dukes. “It just gives us more confidence and motivation to aim for big goals.”

The Jaguars led 28-8 at the end of the first quarter and 47-22 at the half.

“We came out extra flat. No excuse,” said Selma coach Woodie Jackson. “They shot the lights out. They probably didn’t miss but two shots the first half.”

The Saints cut the deficit to 57-49 in the third quarter but Wilcox Central pulled away in the fourth for the win.

“We got relaxed and reserve players gave them the momentum,” said Dukes. “Overall we made a great defensive effort. That was the main turning point in the whole game.”

The Selma B-team fared a little better than the varsity in a 49-41 win.
