Man arrested for selling drugs to officers
Published Saturday, November 15, 2008

Selma police officers acted on a narcotics search warrant Friday morning, but didn’t find exactly what they were looking for.
“During the search Friday, we did not locate any controlled substances in the house,” said a narcotics unit officer, who wished to remain nameless due to security. “Officers did have four buys from the 2224 Hardie Street residence.”
Officers arrested Roderick Sanders, 33, and charged him with four counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
According to police reports, officers bought four times from Sanders between September and Thursday.
Sanders is currently under indictment for a murder, the narcotics officer said.
“The murder happened on Matthew Street about a year ago,” he said. “He allegedly is one of the people who beat another boy to death.”
District Attorney Michael Jackson said the pending murder case involves several other people.
“Late last year he was involved with the beating of another male outside a club,” he said. “Sanders and four or five other guys were involved in an altercation with the victim. The victim shot a gun, and then the other guys beat him to death.”
Jackson said at the time of the alleged murder Sanders was already on parole for a drug conviction.
“He already had a sentence of 20 years when the murder happened,” he said.
Police booked Sanders in the Dallas County Jail under bonds totaling $120,000 and a probation hold.
“His parole officer placed the hold on him after he was arrested,” the narcotics officer said.
The probation hold means Sanders will not be released from jail even if he makes bond.
Sanders faces four class-b felony charges. Conviction of any class-b felony charge could mean imprisonment from two to 20 years and a fine up to $30,000.

I wish some of these young men would stop and think before they destroy their lives with a long prison sentence . I hate to see them throw their life away so carelessly. They need to be taught from an early age they can do better than resorting to criminal activity .

No, I wish that the court system would notice that some people are not going to change, he was already on parole for drugs then him and his friend beats a man to death and instead on keeping him locked up, they let him out again and they still have to arrest him. Some people do not even try to do better, and the opportunites are out their for them to change, they just like getting money the easy way and I guess going to jail is nice.

The justice system is seriously messed up, people that they get drugs off of or that commit murder they set free. Those that they do not get anything off of nor do they have concrete proof of drug activity they try to give them the same amount of time for association. There should be a law against the system for being so screwed up.

I guess he is no kin to Rose, or he would have already been suing the City.

WHY WAS THIS THUG STILL ON THE STREETS? THIS IS SO CRAZY FOR A MAN TO HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF SERVERAL CRIMES TO BE OUT OF PRISON TO COMMITE MORE.

If someone messes up while on parole I thought they were automatically put back in jail........what's wrong with this picture? Maybe I have the law wrong, but something ain't right here!

They should have put a probation hold on him last year. It appears that this guy have plenty of illegal money to get out of his situration. So now he will not be able to get out even if he makes bond. HIGH SECURITY RISK!!!!!

IF WE ARE TOLD WHAT CLASS OF FELONY THIS IS, WHY CAN'T A REPORTER FIND OUT WHO LET HIM OUT TO START WITH, AND WHY? LOOKING AT THE NUMBER OF POSTS ON THIS, THERE APPEARS TO BE A GREAT INTEREST IN THE STORY BECAUSE IT IS SYMPTOMATIC OF A "REVOLVING DOOR" LEGAL SYSTEM WHICH ISN'T RESPECTED APPARENTLY. POPDUKES12

the defense of duress is what i see in this guy situations. dont prosecute someone publicity if your facts are incomplete. most people realize that it is their responsibility to know the law as it applies to them. there are two types of mistake, one a mistake of law, and the other is mistake of fact.

the belief that the public authorities are in a vast conspiracy to violate the rights of an individuals. writers shouldnt slant this guy stories to meet deadline, a desire to attract an audience, and other factors that influence how these stories are written. be fair and tell the truth, or this could develop sources among people holding different views. the way you put this guy out there make a big difference in how this is perceived.

So are you all trying to say that he is not guilty of the crimes that he is accused of.

I don't think the reporter was prosecuting him. It says pending and under indictment.
I would have been more upset if the writer didn't say he was suspected of murder at all.
Do you know the suspect, legats61, or just a crusader of convicted felons?

Well, I was present at the time of the drug bust and no drugs were found at the residence. And maybe he shouldn't have been out on bond, but he was and there's nothing we can do about that part. Because if his people or whoever has money to get him out of jail then they are the stupid one. For a long time Selma has been a place where it's all about who you know and what you got, and that's sad, because if it was someone else they would have never gotten thier probation hold removed. I fault the State Probation Department and Bruce Maddox. Just because he sat in jail for a little while that was no reason to lower his bond so he could get out on the Murder charge in the first place. Like I said if it was someone like me I would probably still be sitting in the DCJ awaiting my court appearances for the Murder!

Delta, personally don't know the suspect and not crusader of convicted felons. Stating that significant pretrial publicity about a case may make it difficult to find a jurors who have not already formed an opinion as to the guilt or innocence of the defendant.

allenes, who to judge whether someone be release on bond or not. No it's nothing you could have on that part. Your money didn't get him out, so why worry. My statement to you, when you are supporters of families that being accused of something that he/she did not admit to, you would stand behind them. Those guys weren't charge with murder, they were suspect until proven guilty/innocence. Yes, If it were you, you probably would have to sit at DCJ until courtdate due to lack of funds/supports!!!!!!!!!!! Don't fault State Parole & Probation/Attorney for following the procedural/regulation of laws.
