The Alabama Department of Forensic Science identified the body found on Race Street as Orlando Woods, 29, of Marion.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Science identified the body found on Race Street as Orlando Woods, 29, of Marion.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Science identified the body found Tuesday in the 400 block of Race Street Thursday morning.

Lt. Art Freine said the body was Orlando Woods, 29, of Marion, who has been missing since Oct. 6.

The Department of Forensic Science identified the body through medical records.

The department also issued a cause of death.

“Forensics said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head,” Freine said. “It is now considered a homicide and we are investigating the case as such.”

Woods was last seen leaving the Dallas County Jail.

“Selma Police pulled over Mr. Woods and found he had an outstanding warrant through another agency,” Freine said. “He was kept in the jail until that agency said to release him.”

Anyone with information on this or any case can call police at 874-2125 or 874-2133 or Crime Stoppers at 877-3530.

Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.

In all likelihood--ChangeSelma and SelmaSmartboy-- it probably is,another black on black crime that is.That being said, you are a bit premature with your comment--eyeonyou-- we don't know who Mr.Woods' murderer is.

I think that it's safe to assume that we all hope the SPD finds out who did.

"Authorities will wait on forensics reports from Montgomery before commenting much on a badly decomposed body found in a ditch on Race Street."

So does anyone else find it odd that a body that has been there for a little over a month had decomposed that bad, it has not really been that hot and the days have gotten shorter. Isn't that strange?

Well it would make sense to me if they found out who picked him up from the jail. It is not far from where the body was found. Also the body was found in a drainage ditch, so it probably decomposed faster than normal. I spoke with an officer on the scene and he told me it was a man missing from Marion. They knew who it was but could not say anything until forensics identified the body. I saw the body and it wasn't too bad. I would have thought it had been there at least 2-3 months though. It shouldn't be too hard to find out who the murderer is. Get to work SPD. Get these criminals off the street.

It doesn't matter what race or gender you are, murder is murder plain and simple.Being new to the south, everyone needs to drop the race issue and concentrate on the more important things.

Yes,YankeeGurl, murder is murder, but statistically speaking black men commit a lot of these crimes all too often against other black men.I'm an African-American man and i'm by no means saying that murder, drug dealing and it's use, burglary, carjackings, etc, etc, are exclusive to us but we commit too many of these crimes to be such a small percentage of the population. It disgusts me every time I visit the Journal's site to see another young eligible black man's mugshot plastered across it's pages...we have to stop the lunacy.
