The Alabama Department of Forensic Science identified the body found on Race Street as Orlando Woods, 29, of Marion.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences made a quick identification of the body found Tuesday in the 400 block of Race Street.

Lt. Art Freine, Criminal Investigation Division commander, said the Department Of Forensic Sciences contacted the Selma Police Department on Thursday morning.

“We got a call about 11 a.m. telling us the body was Orlando Woods,” Freine said. “Mr. Woods had been reported as missing since October 6. Forensics said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. It is now considered a homicide and we are investigating the case as such.”

Woods, 29, was last seen leaving the Dallas County Jail after being arrested on an outstanding warrant.

“Selma Police pulled over Mr. Woods and found he had an outstanding warrant through another agency,” Freine said. “He was kept in the jail until that agency said to release him.”

The Dallas County Jail is less than five miles away from the site where the body was discovered Tuesday by utility workers.
