Authorities can't identify body

Published Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Authorities will wait on forensics reports from Montgomery before commenting much on a badly decomposed body found in a ditch on Race Street.

Utility workers found the body Tuesday afternoon.

"The body hasn't been identified, but we are looking at some possibilities," said Lt. Art Freine, commander of the Selma Police Department Criminal Investigation Department.

Authorities believe the body is that of a black male, but are not sure because of the decomposition.

Friene said the Department of Forensic Sciences likely will identify the body and determine the cause of death. However, Friene does not expect answers soon.

"We haven’t been given any kind of schedule to give us an indication of when we will here any information,î Freine said. ìI know there are other unidentified bodies there, so I can’t even guess how long it could be."

the police needs to pull up missing people and see if a black male has disappeared within the last year....that might help

The police at the scene believes it is a black male that has been missing from Marion a couple of months.

This is very sad...that last statement...we don't know how long...several unidentified bodies....wow. I urge the families of any one that has been missing to put pressure on the forensics lab and get to work. If you have anything like a toothbrush, hairbrush, underwear...anything with DNA traces it might speed up the process. And go to the media yourself and give your plea to the public....remeber Natalie Hollaway? Her family fought hard and didn't stop until the end...and I bet we havent heard the last of the hollaway family....Good!! And whoever is missing someone...I don't want your quest to find your family member to end until you are satisfied. Make sure they do their JOB!!
